Just re-read “The Pallbearer’s Club,” by @paultremblay.bsky.social by listening to the audiobook for the first time. @xesands.bsky.social is proof positive that the audiobook should be more explicitly recognized as an art form. Her performance as Mercy should get some lifetime achievement award.

A reminder too that indie bookstores RULE and will gladly have this book for you. Libraries rule too and if they don’t have it you can always request they add it! If you’re buying online, bookshop dot org or libro dot fm for audio are surefire winners. (STAIRCASE already selling well at Libro!)

Nobody. Wants. This. Audiobooks are an art form. AI narrators are not even remotely qualified to replace the talented human narrators. And I think Audible is kidding themselves if they think people are going to use a $12 credit on something read by a machine.
Hate this a lot. Value human creators, writers, artists, narrators, editors -- everyone in the chain of making a book and putting it out into the world should be a human being. Humans make art for humans.

Just heard about SoundCloud's scraping of all content to train AI - no notice, no way to opt out...and I'm feeling...all the bad-sad-mad things. I've used it for both pub sharing & priv collaboration & coaching for 15 yrs...they stole 15 yrs of "me" to train tech to make a "Better ME". Sickening 💔
