I was just 8 when John Winston Ono Lennon was senselessly murdered. Wish I could say I understood exactly its impact, what it all meant then etc but all I actually remember is really really loving this song. youtu.be/YtW9k85sYwE?...

One of my fave genres is Not Exactly Christmas Music But Certainly Adjacent. The sisters’ album from 1978 (their last as a duo and Shirley’s last before a loooong hiatus) features an actual Xmas number in German Tune. Don’t see many OG Topic Records in the bins here, btw! Proper winter tunes!

Very unusual opportunity to crack open the seal of this 1970 UK jazz classic. (Excerpts from the weighty tome Galactic Ramble)

The widest possible delta exists between the energy expended to create Blueshammer style rock music and my enjoyment of Blueshammer style rock music.

I can’t tell you why it took me two years(?) to finally PLAY this record but WOWEE is it doing it for me. Like the Cocteau Twins were a UK folk band. Yeah this is gonna be glued to my turntable this winter.

Rose Lavelle 80 min gw after Spirit effed around with a key defensive injury was a dagger. Ah well!
What an incredible season for the Washington Spirit who fought to the very end in their 2nd consecutive NWSL championship appearance. They finished 2025 strong in San Jose with their incredible fans and all the more to play for next season🖤

Think it was originally recorded by her band with Nic Dalton. See if you can find some Love Positions vinyl next time you’re digging around.

Put my “don’t leave a produced by Mitch Easter” record rule to the test for this Aussie jangle-stomp fuzz late 80s classic.

Not an important hill to die on by ANY stretch but I low key *hate* the 2025 mixes of Free As A Bird and Real Love. Ok, MAL-ify the John vox for new found clarity, sure. But leave everything else alone. Just cos you can doesn’t mean you should. PASADENA!

I’m but an enthusiastic n00b when it comes to comics…so my understanding of the medium is still a wet cement. But what W. Maxwell Prince and @martinmorazzo.bsky.social are doing with this series and this issue in particular are really scrambling my brain…in a really fun way. Bring on the finale!

This cover is shit and lazy. But within its contents are 13 versions of Beatles songs I’ve never heard before. For that I can put aside my misgivings and old man grumbles and just be thankful. Going in…

Co-sign! Did not expect a show that deals so well with race in America. One of the things I think Welcome To Derry nails is its casting. I’m three episodes in and I feel…surprisingly invested.
I know it's had mixed reviews but I'm really enjoying It: Welcome To Derry. Obviously, you can't mess with the lore but I love that the Muschiettis have basically created a twisted post-war America that could create Pennywise all by itself, with or without the stupid Macroverse.

Let’s GOOOOOO!
THE SPIRIT HAVE DONE IT AGAIN. With huge performances from Aubrey Kingsbury, Gift Monday, and Rose Kouassi they put on a SHOW at home in DC. Now they’ll bring the Rowdy Audi energy to the championship in San Jose 🖤💛

Well @ashcanpress.com to borrow my daughter’s parlance you left no crumbs and ate the plate. A truly satisfying conclusion to a fantastic series. Bring on more Rook!

It’s a good week when mail from
@slumberlandrecords.com arrives! Newie from Tony Molina! Eschews heavy fuzz of past in favor of 12 string arpeggios. Same MO in play tho: catchy as fuck songs that are generally in/out around a minute. Efficient! (Bonus pts for Kaleidoscope & Nico cover-laden flexi!)

When @reiddossinger.com and @kevinalvir.bsky.social both coincidentally recommend the same band to you in the same week you listen. Sharp Pins is the nom de plume of a preternaturally talented Chicago indie kid (he of Lifeguard). Guided By Beatles? Yes please!

Attention folk singer doing overly earnest version of Radiohead’s Creep playing on coffee shop’s shuffle:

Just because you *can* doesn’t mean you *should*. (

(The cartoonish emoting is painful to my ears.)

Once long ago I was listening to a Velvet Crush album & I thought to myself “more like this please”. That’s how learned that the guy from Lilac Time fronted Velvet Crush and made this spiritual cousin?! Now I have 2 faves! And when @petepaphides.bsky.social created his label I was like “I see you!”
