Oh they annoy me to no end, but I know change starts with building community, and that’s seemingly at the bottom of everybody’s list. It’s exactly backwards.

This gets into a whole thing, but on this app, using that vernacular can be and often is used as a stand-in for doing the work, to borrow a phrase. It’s gatekeeping slacktivism, and makes this a not fun place to hang out. “Don’t use in group language to win over the out group” is just common sense.

My overall point is you have to meet people where they’re at linguistically, and nobody who earnestly uses these terms needs convincing. If you use different terms for the same concepts, there are votes up for grabs if you can make the abstract concrete.

Basically code switching. We all do it in all other aspects of life, why not this as well
Correct. You activate voters using everyday language to describe your positions on issues. Using specialized, academic language doesn't. It is simple.
This is perhaps where I diverge with Bluesky CW the most. I think tactical debates over what language we use are not substantive ones about what our stands on issues should be bsky.app/profile/bart...

Buford is basically a private school. My HS built its own stadium (and rubberized the track) through community fundraising years before Gwinnett County created and funded minimum facilities standards.

Twitter had first mover advantage as the blog era crumbled, and that just vomited preformed communities onto the nearest platform. That’s splintering now, too, but the strongest communities (newer and older) survive platform changes.

Catching up on OG On Business with @joeovies.bsky.social and @ravanos.bsky.social, and their SiriusXM discussion nailed why I continue to have SiriusXM in the car. I like radio, and Lithium/Alt Nation are reminiscent of 99X. Madison’s personality in particular. Also, great for live sports.
