Holidays are hard for a lot of queer people. Friendsgivings on other days are great, but there’s always something about Thanksgiving Day (and Xmas) that hits at our loneliness, hunger, and need for community.

So, we’re raising $1,500 for each of the two holidays, to make sure no one goes alone. 💚

Let’s make it a tradition.

This year will be the 4th year (and 3rd in Oakland) we’ve hosted our holiday meal on that holiday. It’s not about celebrating the day — it’s about making sure our community has a safe, culturally affirming place to go.

The 4th Annual Community Meal

November 27h, Oakland, CA

These are free events. This tradition started in 2022. In 2023, we sponsored 3 events: in Santa Barbara, Oakland, and El Paso. In 2024, the catered meal was held in Oakland in a collaboration with Good VBZ.

This is it. Very glad to see this full-throated welcome to queer people — and recognition of trans people’s history — from Zohran Mamdani in the closing month of his campaign and on National Coming Out Day.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

Cracks do not allow you to make patterns with your path. If i step on a crack now I have to step on another one to balance the pattern between my feet. I mean I don’t have to but pattern n balance does feel nice on the brain. 😂👉🏽🧠🌶️

Be honest:

How long did it take you to finally ignore the phrase, “Step on a crack, break your mama’s back,” and walk freely?

Or do you still actively avoid cracks while walking to this day?

(gay folk who chase a “reason” or “cause” to be “born this way” also contribute to the chase for a “prevention” or “cure” to our existence — “I exist” is enough of a “why” to deserve life, dignity, and care.)

The universe of Bob’s Burgers has their own version of Bay to Breakers called “Bog to Beach”.

And Linda loves it.

They should bring it back in a Marshmallow-centric episode.

I could really go for a chicken philly, waffle fries, and something clear and alcoholic to wash it down. Perfect autumn meal.

GOOD NEWS! Researchers have discovered a powerful antibody, known as 04_A06, that is able to neutralize 98.5% of MORE THAN 300 different HIV strains AND permanently reduce HIV viral load to undetectable levels, making it one of the broadest-acting antibodies against HIV identified to date.

(The choice of Bad Bunny isn’t just about his popularity. It’s knowing that Latin America is a growing market for football precisely because Latinos love the masculinity that keeps the NFL afloat — the cultural elements they find comfort in across borders, and across elections.)

One of the things about the 90s, is they said that open markets create open societies — they said you need capitalism and democracy are symbiotic in the far-side shadow if the Cold War. 30 years later, we know that isn’t true.

Anyway, this is about Bill Burr’s latest comments in the Guardian.

I feel this way, too. It was a place for me to connect, having grown up in a small, culturally narrow town. But there’s not a lot of connection happening any more; transactional and extractive, and less learning, too.

I’m so serious.

I continue to see queer folk repeating tropes and narratives that are incomplete, false, pathologizing our behaviors, limiting our sense of self, or harming us from inside the house.

So, “Good Lore’d Pod” is coming.

“Good lore, or good lord???”

Oh, the things we tell ourselves…

AI videos of Tupac at Giants, Niners, and Warriors games is crazy.

AI isn’t honoring people — it’s an attempt to own them.

AI is about revealing someone’s dream is to own a person.

How else to explain the meeting of “AI is almost at consciousness” and “AI is your own personal assistant”?

89 “gay dating social media profiles in Boston” is not really generalizable scientific data.

Do 10,000 msm in the Bay Area / California to find out those “preferences”.

Do an observational study of “interracial couples” on the street and social spaces to find out more.

Yeah, man, Andor (2022 Peabody) was shit, Star Trek (2023 Peabody Institutional Award) is crap, storytelling that abstracts or highlights the experiences of marginalized people (X-Men etc) is useless entertainment, comic-cons, meetups, & relational talk from a recognized tshirt or tattoo aren’t real

Nineties comic books were crazy, because folks would really be out in the street beating people's asses dressed like this. Tell me that Black Canary wouldn't have rolled out in something like that--with fishnets, of course.

I think in this discussion, using that metaphor, that isn’t an option. The bottle might say lube but it’s not even spit; the marketing behind AI gives the illusion of a crumb of agency and even that is a lie. Implying that we can possibly be part of it is lying to ourselves.

And let me add:

The marginalized people who pushed NFTs, crypto, and other tech-based scams said things like this, almost verbatim.

Head to any meeting of marginalized tech workers and they’ll say the same, even as tech targets their own communities.

“Secure the bag” is not anyone’s panacea.
