Mega🧵 CDC IGNORES URGENT EPI AID REQUESTS

1/9 🚨 Maine is facing the largest HIV outbreak in its history.
It asked CDC for help.
😡 CDC is ignoring the request.

This is not getting enough attention in the news — and it should be.

Maine sought federal help amid its largest HIV outbreak in state history. It’s still waiting
After initially approving Penobscot County's request for CDC aid, the agency put it on hold. Meanwhile, the virus spreads.

I will never understand the pundit obsession with getting Democrats to solve "political division."

Not only is this what they're already doing, but Klein admits that Republicans will never do the same. So elections will remain constant GOP smears and simping Democratic promises of bipartisanship.

The hatefulness of creating and sustaining a news network with the goal of lying to a population (like directly to their face) every single day for 30 years is actually astounding. #foxnewschannel

I just hate the way our society views the homeless. I’ve been homeless before and that shit ain’t easy to get out of. Ppl aren’t on the street bc they want to be. They’re not less human than you. And you could easily find yourself out there in today’s world. Have some compassion.

in light of the kimmel news, just a reminder that a few days ago a prominent fox news host literally called for killing homeless people. right afterward, someone shot up a couple homeless encampments.

that fox news host still has his job.
Brian Kilmeade endorses euthanizing homeless people: "Involuntary lethal injection, or something. Just kill them."

RFK Jr. went on Fox News today and claimed that Dr. Daskalakis, who resigned from the CDC in protest of RFK Jr.’s destruction of public health, refused to send CDC money to Texas in the midst of a measles outbreak.

I do not believe RFK Jr. for a nanosecond.

COVID killed at least 1.1 million people in the US (likely an undercount).

COVID vaccines saved at least 3.2 million lives in the US in the first two years alone.

Completely unacceptable RFK Jr is restricting vaccine access when he clearly has no idea how COVID or vaccines work.
Warner: "Secretary of Health and Human Service -- he doesn't know how many people died from covid, doesn't know if the vaccine saved lives, doesn't understand the issue that OBGYN doctors are fleeing rural America ... "

I think about this often. Prevention so good people forget what they wanted prevented.
The “problem” with vaccines? They so effective at preventing deaths that they create generations of people that question whether disease was a problem in the first place because they have never experienced the horrors of a world without vaccines.

Honestly RFKJr is so often wrong about things he’s read that I question if he has any reading comprehension whatsoever.

RFKJ: Anybody can get the booster. We don’t recommend it.

Warren: if you don’t recommend it, people can’t get it.

RFK: I’m not taking it away. Most Americans will be able to get it for free. I’m not going to recommend drugs for which there is not clinical data.

THERE IS TONS OF CLINICAL DATA.

Kennedy continues to claim that vaccines aren’t adequately tested.

He is a liar. They are the most thoroughly tested intervention of all.

Best of all, this administration is keen on making sure MDs won’t be eligible for public service loan forgiveness. (My wife and I combined have ~$500k debt).
Resident doctors are being exploited.

They’re working 70 or 80 hours a week and trying to pay off student debts with totally inadequate salaries.

The good news is that they are forming unions and fighting back. I stand with them.

RFK Jr must resign (but won’t because this administration actively seeks the death of objectivity and truth)
Kennedy’s attack on public health must be stopped
The abrupt attempt to oust Dr. Susan Monarez, the CDC’s director just weeks after her Senate confirmation, is yet another glaring sign of Secretary Kennedy’s failed leadership and reckless mismanageme...

Decades of evidence support proven solutions like housing + services for those who need them—not sweeps or arrests.

I was homeless. Trump's plan to criminalize people like me won't make you safer.
Housing First is a development-first approach that offers a permanent solution. And 'Trump ends homelessness in four years' has a nice ring to it.

Dr. William Foege, 89, who helped end smallpox in the 1970s, recently wrote: RFK Jr.’s “words can be as lethal as the smallpox virus.” And his actions are more lethal still. He’s waging war on America. That’s an impeachable offense. He must be removed from office.

Hi, immunologist here:

(a scientist who studies immune & inflammatory processes)

RFK Jr is talking absolute bullshit when he says he can “see in kids faces that they have inflammation”

That’s NOT how immunology works.

He is an anti-science profiteer.
Start calling him such.

It’s frustrating because chronic stress has real implications down to the cellular level, but he has none of the foundation to understand the problem and is unhinged. Also stop looking at children all the time
wtf is this nonsense? He thinks he can understand kid’s “mitochondrial challenges” just by looking at them?

This is an insane person.

I applaud workers at the CDC for standing up against Sec. Kennedy’s dangerous anti-vaccine crusade.

We are witnessing a full-blown war on public health from the Trump Administration.

History will not look kindly on those who stayed silent in the face of this assault on science.
