Just trying to get a hang of this thing. Same handle on the other site.
If you create an untrained, ignorant, brutal, secret police force, it’s hard to be surprised when you get brutality, ignorance, and chaos out of your secret police force.
Curious why ICE and CBP agents are so brutal? Here's a useful explainer I wrote last week, before Saturday's outrageous murder, about how uniquely unsuited ICE and CBP are for this moment—and why they were so corruptible into Trump's own fascist secret police: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/ice-101-ho...
"ICE 101" — How Trump changed ICE and CBP into a fascist secret police
ICE and CBP are fatally flawed products of the post-9/11 War on Terror — now Trump has weaponized those very flaws to occupy America.

Repeating: NOW is a good time to shovel if you've switched from snow to sleet. 1-3" of sleet (which is many times heavier than snow) on top of this snow will make it MUCH harder to clear later.

Someone who never found a problem that he couldn’t immediately make drastically worse.
"Hegseth’s apparent desire to get involved in the Minnesota debacle is dangerous not only to the lives of innocent Americans, but to American democracy itself," @radiofreetom.bsky.social argues:
Pete Hegseth Should Sit This One Out
By inserting himself into the situation in Minnesota, the secretary of defense is only making things worse.

what an utter sleazeball
Vance in MN: "It's really cold outside. We in the Trump administration want to deport criminal aliens who are sex offenders. It takes a certain level of committed to sex offender criminal aliens to stand outside in -40 temperatures and attack the vice president, but they're committed to the bit."

It's kinda victorian-era gothic horror, isn't it?
the president slowly physically decaying and manifesting what appears to be some kind of stigmata on his hand while becoming more insane and evil would be dismissed as a hacky writing device

wait, I don't have to shovel snow because I'm over 50? Or I do have to, because I am familiar with it? I am so confused.
If you get snow this weekend and aren't familiar with it — or even if you are — shoveling is very tough work. This is a decent list of dos and don'ts… but I'd add don't do it *at all* if you're over 50. It's very hard on the heart, especially in extreme cold.

For this Administration, destroying the artistic heritage of the New Deal while liquidating public property for profit probably counts as a twofer.

The House of Representatives voted to allow mining near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Minnesota, reinvigorating plans to build a major mining project there. The measure also requires Senate approval.

At around 1:40 this afternoon, I witnessed federal agents with ICE and CBP arresting a US citizen after hitting her car from behind, and then kneeling on the head of a legal observer in the snow, preventing breathing and bloodying their face.

When passenger asked why, ICE threatened to detain them. If they said no photo, couldn't board/TBD detained.
