When you said Dark Souls in here I was like damn, I would definitely buy that. I would begrudgingly buy Dune and Buffy. I bought one of the Dr. Who ones and I don't watch Dr. Who. But, I hope they stop after Marvel. But then line won't go up? So, they can't.

My wife, after telling her I bought Black Panther and a Spider-Man bundle, asked what my dream IP would be for MTG to do. I said I'd wish they'd stop, not only because goddamn I've spent so much money but because I don't think it's good for the game, but I am a straight hypocrite.

And this is in a post-scarcity world with warp drives and Vulcans. To bring back my ethical and practical concerns, even if they're only stealing from themselves, which I doubt, not only is this never gonna work even if it did you run into ethical problems instantly with humans interacting with it.

And what goes wrong? The machine can't think and they have to override it so humans can escape. I'm not worried about it creating a deathbot slash sentient being like in Elementary, My Dear Data. But that without the humans writing the programs everything always goes wrong.

Beyond my ethical and practical concerns I wanna talk about Star Trek's holodeck for a second, cuz they're trying to skip straight to holodeck. Star Trek's holodeck is a super cool concept. Humans still had to write those programs. Almost every holodeck episode has the machine almost kill everyone.

Hard agree. It was a genuinely fascinating aspect of the character. He thought he killed his best friend and it genuinely broke him. I get the desire to make him know, no, you did something much worse which is fine, but stay with the interesting character stuff.

Roguelike and roguelite, I've been told, are two different things. I reject that as the names are just too similar as are the genres. The whole -like thing is irksome to me. Is it supposed to be just a vibes thing?

1, the obvious: brilliant deconstruction of how patriarchy tries to sell total emotional isolation as not just a side effect but a GOAL of doing masculinity correctly

Am I saying we shouldn't have done that? Not really. Am I saying he's the same as anyone else who is assassinated? No. But, sometimes we bloodthirsty masses cheer when people die. We can find it repugnant but it is also human.

Just two cents about cheering assassinations: the United States government straight assassinated Osama Bin Laden and I remember seeing all of Twitter celebrating. Most US nationals celebrated murdering someone without any due process.

Disc 1 of FF8, could it be distilled from the rest, is perhaps the best FF. I wish I could go back in a machine and make Square make the 8 disc 3 timeline FF8 that was rumored. While flawed, FF8 is my favorite but I can't call the whole product the best.

I can't tell you how many times heart slayed me as Aura lady. I ended up beating it with a divinity build but it's hard to make work and she's just so punishing when you make mistakes.

With Shiv poison lady, I usually think the power that provides block for every card you play is best but against heart you need so much block it feels like it's not enough.

With Ironclad, the best power is the one that preserves block between turns. It's hard to pull off against heart because of early aggressive turns.

I thought it wasn't for me, but I beat my head against the wall until I went insane and now I enjoy them. I don't wish that upon anyone else. I wish, like movies, you could dismiss stuff easily as "not for you" but when gaming trends take hold they really don't let go.

Most have superbosses for you to take on. I think it's a good compromise. You can nope out if you want. In FFX I didn't have the patience for the Dark Aeons and I didn't feel any lack of accomplishment for not beating them.

Radical acceptance and self-compassion sound silly to me. Why should I NEED to do that? It's that some hippie stuff? But, working with my therapist on it has been genuinely life changing.

There's a shared thread between Superman and the android Data. Both are better than humans, yet strive to be one of us. Both are often victims of our worst impulses, but manage to still see our best qualities. My cynicism sees this as unrealistic but I can't help but see humans can be great.
