Did you know #LongCovid heavily impacts anesthesia response, and because of that, these patients need specific requirements and protocols before receiving anesthesia? Neither do I. Anesthesiologist and neurologist Tihamér Molnar described his research with Long Covid patients in Hungary.

Asthma is one of the most common illness in children, but it is more prevalent in racialized (especially Black) children.

Long COVID is more common than asthma among children, estimated at somewhere between 10 and 20%.

Do you think public health recognises the difference between surviving and thriving?

I have to wonder what the aim of health promotion is… if “most will get through whatever it is” is the standard of care.

A horrendous report on ABC radio from a Brisbane doctor doing a second tour in Gaza with Medecins sans Frontières. She says the ceasefire is in name only, the genocide continues and the deprivation of basic food, shelter and resources means even the injured haven’t what the need to heal.

It’s wild that so many people would rather keep getting sick in an ongoing pandemic — risking immune damage and becoming more vulnerable to other illnesses — than simply wear a mask. 😷

Alice Wong taught us that disabled people don’t just leave memories behind—they leave infrastructure. Lineages of care. Methods of collectivity, survival. She named the connective tissue that holds our communities together, even across death, even across the losses that come too fast and too often.

This person was infected with COVID twice and recovered. A 3rd infection brought manageable long COVID symptoms, but they were still able to work. After a 4th infection a few months ago, they haven’t recovered at all — showing how repeated infections can cause severe, lasting damage.

Tern is right. It’s great having an informed online community that’s adapted to the ongoing pandemic reality and is doing everything possible to stay safe.

I know it’s been a tough ride, but please know you are not alone.

Tom Hanks explains to Stephen Colbert why he masks on the subway:

"I'm doing a play right now so I cannot get sick... I've had COVID enough in my life, I don't need to do that again. So I'm wearing this for health reasons."

Thank you Tom! Masks are still a key part of public health.

NHS staff are sick twice as often, and die 30% more since the pandemic. The public broadly believes that the virus isn't circulating and doesnt have dangerous long term effects. The disconnect between the medical evidence and public perception is staggering.

Exactly this — vaccines help prevent hospitalisation and death, but they don’t stop infection or transmission. That’s why masking is still so important. 😷

“Rule 7.25 of the National
Disability Insurance Scheme (Supports for Participants) Rules 2013 limits the amount of
support the NDIS can provide in prisons, such as expressly prohibiting day-to-day care and
support needs” ~ Damien Linnane, Uni of Newcastle

Mikael Björnson, MD, links long COVID and POTS.

"Nearly 30% of long COVID patients show signs of POTS."

First identified in 2020–21 and later confirmed, this overlap is troubling since long COVID affects up to 50% of unvaccinated hospitalised adults and 10–15% of non-hospitalised cases.

I try to be professional on this platform but there are times, like now, when it hits me hard on a visceral level that we are in the midst of a catastrophic global public health crisis and it seems, as a species, we've somehow decided that ignoring it is the best plan we've got.
