“One mile on a bike is a $.42 economic gain to society, one mile driving is a $.20 loss.”

“Which means that Copenhagen, a city of 1.2 million people, saves $357 million a year on health costs because something like 80% of its population commutes by bike.” #CityMakingMath

Some costs aren’t costs.
One mile on a bike is a $.42 economic gain to society, one mile driving is a $.20 loss
Copenhagen, the bicycle-friendliest place on the planet, publishes a biannual Bicycle Account, and buried in its pages is a rather astonishing fact.

What if you had to take your drivers test at least every 10 years?

A lot changes over time. Including knowledge/memory of the road rules, driver skills and ability, and the size and deadliness of vehicles.

Why on earth do the Tories want to keep people locked into high energy bills? And, come to that, why is the BBC citing Reform but saying nothing about climate science or renewable alternatives?

The government warns Kemi Badenoch's plans would "only accelerate the worsening climate crisis".

High-speed trains aren't rocket science. We solved all the technological problems long ago.

(Fuck Musk's hyperloop and robocars. We want AM, not FM: Actual Machines, not Fucking Magic.)

The main problem is that only 2 percent of Americans has even set foot on an intercity train.

Simon Tisdall highlights the dangers posed by the proliferation of lower-yield, tactical warheads which supposedly allows “limited” nuclear war. Crossing that red line could lead to an unstoppable chain reaction, with horrific consequences. The campaign against nuclear weapons must get much louder👇
As the world hurtles ever closer to nuclear oblivion, where is the opposition? | Simon Tisdall
The puerile standoff between the US and Russia ought to alert a slumbering public to a risk that is in many ways greater than during the cold war, says Simon Tisdall, a Guardian foreign affairs commen...

LADS! I did it! I finally did it, and it was fucking glorious. On Sunday 20th July, I finally had a use for one of the hundreds of off-cuts of wood I've stored "just in case I need it" over the years! One down, a few hundred to go.

The business secretary Jonathan Reynolds says the racist protesters intimidating asylum seekers in Epping are "upset for legitimate reasons.”
I don't remember any Labour frontbencher saying the same about people protesting the genocide in Gaza. On the contrary, they've criminalised peaceful dissent.

Scary to see extreme heat become the norm in the UK - this will cost more and more lives.

What is govt doing to protect us from these effects of climate change that are already with us?

And how can they justify giving go-ahead to airport expansion which will worsen the crisis?
