As deaths in the US are blamed on ChatGPT and UK teenagers turn to it for mental health advice, isn’t it obvious that market forces must not set the rules?, says Guardian columnist Gaby Hinsliff

Why should young people participate in an economy that offers them no hope for the future?

The inter-generational bargain that kept British capitalism afloat has collapsed - and Labour is too busy listening to corporate lobbyists to do anything about it.

Work doesn’t pay, housing is a trap, and life has been enshittified — why should young people keep propping up a system rigged against them?

Hey everyone, here's the news, if you aren't a high earner, entrepreneur or a "skilled frontline worker" (whatever the fuck that means) the "Labour" Party says you aren't contributing, you're a taker!
This is so disgusting.

Starmer's Labour is worse than the Tories because there isn't a Labour party waiting in the wings, unless we see some astonishing magic from the Greens. People rejected the Tories and Labour came in to tell them, no, that's not allowed, this is the only policy there is. Fuck you.

It's not the only reason to oppose the language of takers and shirkers and all that, but people have been warning with good reason: when you establish the existence of a subclass of despised, worthless people it's acceptable to hate and abuse, everyone ends up in there eventually.
The “Labour” Party finds itself arguing ordinary workers, carers and others are “takers”.

Except it's government-as-household-budget Thatcherist propaganda that misrepresents central bank accounting as 'debt'. Right-wing Labour MPs are a careerist cancer.
