"...the country must be taken in a decisively different direction, if it it isn’t going to head towards fascism and total social breakdown."
Here's me for @newstatesman1913.bsky.social arguing that the only way to forestall a Reform government is to make a more decisive break with neoliberalism than Starmer is ever going to, or most of the parliamentary 'soft left' still seem capable of imagining.

Why is Keir Starmer so unpopular?
Britain needs a leader willing to break with the legacy of Thatcherism

Make sure to get outside today, make use of every bit of daylight we have and when the night comes, know that tomorrow will be that little bit lighter 🙌🏻

the customer service person i spoke to on the phone today thanked me for not yelling at her; she said most people are understandably upset when they call. be kind to customer service people- they probably didn’t cause your problem, but they’re most likely the the person who’s going to fix it.

Thanks to the @plutopress.bsky.social sale 2026 is going to bring a dive into open Marxism, something I've been interested in since reading John Holloway's How to Change the World Without Taking Power.

A large proportion of the problems with bourgeois democracies comes down to the fact that liberals view elections as nothing more than the opportunity to select an emotional support government.

Bore on about this a lot, but really was one of the worst parts of the government's response to the pandemic that they steadfastly and repeatedly refused to improve the existing sick pay system. Instead, they brought in a terrible temporary mess of a scheme six months in and ended it asap.
I wonder how much lower flu would be right now if we’d fixed sick pay properly during COVID so that your colleague didn’t come to work sick, give you flu, which you passed on to your granny before you realised
As i wrote at the time, bosses were allowed to demand we carried on commuting to their factories & call centres, no new protections were put in place (unlike EU countries) & sick pay remained lowest, whereas we could have reformed, stopping ppl having to go to work sick & infectious *with anything*
