Scientists love to debate and argue, but if there are 3 things every scientist absolutely agrees on, it's that:

1. Climate change is real
2. Vaccines work
3. Those are NOT dire wolves 😤

Last time I went to California these are some of the nudibranchs I saw. I can't wait to see what I'll find in LA with @gwenckatz.bsky.social in a couple weeks. I'm really, really hoping for one of the big sea hares!

A small Proboscis Bat hanging out along a waterway in the Amazon river basin. These bats can be found in small groups along rivers and streams and range throughout much of South America east of the Andes Mountains. Check out the tiny tail! 🦊

Little bat, big ears. Zora the spotted bat (E. maculatum) is doing well but still looks unimpressed most of the time. 🦇

🦇 Bats unfairly get a bad press a lot.
In my work, I see a lot of zoonotic disease scare stories – such misinformation is harmful to conservation and unhelpful on public health, it diverts resources and it can trigger wildlife persecution.

No evidence that the novel coronavirus identified in bats can be transmitted to humans
While a recent study on a novel coronavirus in bats provides valuable laboratory characterisation data, it cannot be seen as evidence of an infection or transmission risk in humans.

I knit this child's sweater with the statistic "only 4% of all mammals on Earth are wild". All those cute animals on children's clothing misrepresent the biodiversity of wildlife left on their planet. It's not cute. 🧶
