Had a kind of weird and bad day so I’ve been Christmas-ing hard tonight. Worked on addressing cards and made cookies that spread and look ridiculous but they’ll taste good. 😂

The 4th time I saw Jurassic Park in the theatre in ‘93, it was with my brother (9 years older than me) and his friends who I thought were extremely cool. We sat in the first row of a mostly empty theatre and they made jokes the whole time and I basically felt like a celebrity.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

I’m basically allergic to caffeine and believe me, if I COULD consume it, I WOULD consume it every damn day.
Cafes across the U.S. are embracing the low- and no-caffeine lifestyle, with options that are a far cry from dusty tea bags and rewarmed decaf. nyti.ms/3XKlqoj

Renewed my masters swimming registration for 2026 and I had to certify that my gender identity matches the gender I was assigned at birth. Because master Swimming is some kind of elite sport where the stakes are as high as you can count. I’m pissed off.

As an admin told me recently, not every class has to use a microwave, but we need to prepare our students for the workforce where microwaves are dominant.
"To solve this problem I now run ten microwaves in parallel cooking ten steaks. One out of the ten steaks will most likely be good. The number of microwaves has required me to upgrade my restaurant’s electrical system and I now have a small nuclear reactor installed in the parking lot."
In the Future All Food Will Be Cooked in a Microwave, and if You Can’t Deal With That Then You Need to Get Out of the Kitchen
Update 8/8/2025 – I wrote this the day before a certain post by a popular developer services company. I’ve seen some comments this is a rebuttal – it wasn’t meant to be! But…

My lil intro to Marxism for music students is finally out! It was hard to write and I'm sure has many flaws but I had so much fun doing it. If you've struggled to know how to introduce your music students to Marx, I wrote it for you!
The whole issue is very good, many bangers in here. Please share

I needed this laugh to start the day.
“I look down at the crashing swell. Alone at the after-party, a kind of honeymoon in hell. I am on the list, a bit of grave misfortune. I am in the New York Post, even worse. The ink is black, the pages yellow. Everything, some kind of lie. What of doubt? Scientists cannot see the soul.”
Sentences From American Canto That Sent Me To The Hospital
I reviewed Olivia Nuzzi's American Canto for Slate. There's far less RFK Jr. in it than you'd expect.

Duh.

Hahaha the college students worked the incense a little too hard and set off the fire alarm right at the end of the service and the fire dept had to come walk through the building. At least all the kids got to run outside and see the fire truck. 😂🫠🚒💒

Nothing gold can stay.
