Read Banned Books under a shelf of books.

Same! Did you get the annual update volumes or whatever they were called? We were lucky that even without degrees my parents invested in knowledge.

We had the World Book Encyclopedias — I loved them things!

I was on our college paper over the couple years of transition from waxed printed type layout to full digital design. It was wild.

I’m so happy to have grown up in this bridge generation where digital was immature and nascent, and the analog systems were still running. My college art history prof used an actual slide carousel for presentations. Overheads! Rotary phones! Even the early internet used copper telephone lines.

This pretty much covered the dangers in yesterday's NYT.

Whether you like it or not, this is our painful truth in America.

Tell that to the MIT study.

Also we often do it with no CT or MRI.

Yeah the fact that I am finding things more than a decade ago shows this was completely predictable. If people had listened.

Dr. Jane Goodall filmed an interview with Netflix in March 2025 that she understood would only be released after her death.

She needs attention? Oh, ok.

John Oliver just had something smart to say in a recent show about people that send The Office Gifs. 😂

It is so fascinating to me that when @tressiemcphd.bsky.social highlights one of these dogged blankity-blanks, it always turns to “you’re so weird, you’re a large account, don't you have something better to do? why you siccing your followers on me??” It’s like they all have something in common, no?

Where do you find the time??!

The fact they jumped straight to AI actors modeled after women when, if I’m not mistaken, male actors are a higher labor cost kind of says it all doesn’t it,

And I think the Brene difference between guilt and shame was mentioned probably. I also haven’t read the entire piece aside from the excerpts I saw shared.

I saw some clips TMC shared on IG from the piece. I also have read a lot of Brene. The discussion described appropriate shame as giving us reason to scrutinize our character and grow. I’m not sure embarrassment hits that exactly although the (I feel/I did) part aligns.

Having it hit around 50, I wanted to blame peri/menopause, but it has been a few years now and I still struggle at time despite my deep desire to be devouring texts. Although, sometimes it is just because it is a bad book and I now give myself permission to ditch that sh*t.

All of that. As Gen-X I thought I was raising my kids with a streak of “just do it and see what happens” but they are more impacted by something in their own generational miliue.
abinpa.bsky.social
But things have become so rubric-driven that my kids would panic and insist they NEED to have something to turn in to get these 10 points because the entire grade is this build up of little pieces and rarely about the quality of the finished product.

I have been horrified that at my “high-standards, high-achieving” district my kids say they have often not finished an assigned book. The class gets behind and next thing you know they are watching the movie. 😩
