Free speech absolutely does only go one way. This is what I call in my academic work “media inequality”. Left wing ideas are delegitimised while right wing are legitimised (even when acting illegitimately). This seems to be a constant of mainstream media reporting.
Everyone should be held to the same standards.

Ever wondered WHY Trump and his allies are so viciously attacking and cutting science?
It's because science puts the lie to everything they're trying to do. It identifies the real people and actions causing our problems. It exposes the truth behind their disinformation.
Science not silence.

This is the shape of what is to come. #ClimateCrisis

This is *not* the ‘new normal’. Things will get worse.

#ClimateChange means more Black Summers & Black Winters #lafires.

Stop subsidising & burning fossil fuels ASAP! You too, AUS. #auspol
Wow! Councilwoman Traci Parks just painted the bleakest possible picture of the Pacific Palisades.

“I don’t want to sugarcoat this, and I don’t want to make any false promises. The Palisades is a complete disaster zone. Everything is gone.”

Fascinating to see Amy Remeikis dropping all these truth bombs about the true agenda behind Dutton’s nuclear push in her new role working for @australiainstitute.org.au. She’s had to leave mainstream media to say this - all of it factual, watchdog journalism. Why can’t mainstream say it too?
When Peter Dutton releases the nuclear ‘costings’ later this week (as he’s committed) keep your eye on what’s actually at stake - the necessary energy transition

Human-caused climate change is already one planetary-scale experiment too many.

Geoengineering the Great Barrier Reef is a really bad thought bubble…..

Not such a bright idea: cooling the Earth by reflecting sunlight back to space is a dangerous distraction
A UN meeting this week considered a motion on a suite of technologies known as ‘solar radiation modification’, but no consensus could be reached on the controversial topic.

The right have successfully turned the public against “elites” by claiming “elites” are:
👉🏻Left wing governments
👉🏻Educated people with expertise
👉🏻”Woke” celebrities and brands
This is just a culture war designed to stop the public seeing the real villains - the real “elites” - billionaires.

Since April we have published 20 fact briefs - short summaries offering “yes/no” answers replying to online claims - in collaboration with Gigafact and thought that this little milestone might make for a good reason to write a short blog post about the project.

Gavin Schmidt (@climateofgavin.bsky.social) and I have a guest essay in today's New York Times about the exceptional and not fully explained recent global temperatures, and climate science can become more "operational" to address these questions: www.nytimes.com/2024...
Opinion | Climate Science Can’t Keep Up With the Warming Planet
We need more timely updates in response to the rapid changes to the climate.

A gentle reminder that if we miss the 1.5°C target (and we certainly will), the next target is 1.51°C and not 2°C. We need to keep fighting.

Every tonne of CO₂ emitted makes the job of future CO₂ removal harder, and every 0.01°C of temperature increase makes the world more chaotic and dangerous.

it's so nice to post something about climate change and not get barraged by just the shittiest people in the world arguing from the peak of Mt. Dunning-Kruger that climate science is wrong.
