My new novel is published on 20 November, the fiftieth anniversary of Franco's death. Unintentional, but somehow fitting...
A story of politics and power, of loyalty and betrayal, and of the good intentions that pave the road to hell.

This chart (in a fascinating thread comparing coverage of a mass stabbing 30 years ago) should be seen by a lot more people.
But I do suspect the differences in press attention, along with the lack of social media and rolling news, are why people forget how much worse and more prevalent violence was in the 1990s.
I don’t recall commentators freaking out that they were terrified to go to supermarkets.

It’s fascinating comparing the front page coverage of the Huntingdon train attack (below) with how the British press treated another case 30 years ago.
I’m referring to the 1995 Netto supermarket attack in Birmingham in which a man stabbed 10 people, killing one of them.

Wherever we looked for the prominent flaggers and leaders of this movement, we found people smugglers and sex doll salesmen, people with dubious criminal pasts and people willing to put in a good word for Adolf Hitler.

Russian fascism is engaged in an existential civilisational battle against liberal democracy, with the Ukrainian working class acting as the first line of defence for Europe.
Material support for the Ukrainian armed forces is class solidarity. Arming Kyiv is anti-fascist praxis.
