I've had some long nights in the stir—er, uh, library.

Trying to free up photo space on my phone and ran across this from a few years ago. Never did figure out what they meant.

Read through for the whole bear-with-a-ham-finale.
One of the best things about being in an international server is that if I mention that I live in Bear Country (CO), the Australians all howl about how we need to shut up about Aussie wildlife, because THEIR large carnivores mostly stay in the water, NOT INVITE THEMSELVES INTO THE KITCHEN. (🧵1/?)

Traveled with family for a wedding recently. Someone else booked the plane tickets, and I now know that I am not wired for Southwest's open seating policy. I need my assigned seating, dammit. (I see SW plans to roll out that option for 2026.)

So, I’m not brave enough to try any of the meat & beer-flavored Pringles options, but I had zero hesitation in grabbing these Vlasic Pickle Balls (dill pickle corn puffs) to try later. @sarabsutter.bsky.social

You don't realize how dependent you are on a (mostly) free white noise app until it updates in the middle of the night & puts all your curated-but-basic sound mixes behind a stiff monthly subscription fee. If @bettersleep.bsky.social thought that tactic would drive subscriptions, they thought wrong.

The woman who shouted "people will die" at Joni Ernst, India May, is a nurse and a librarian who first got involved in politics by going to a town hall about bills aiming to defund libraries.

Now she's running for state house.

Three days later, and I'm still on a thrifting high of finding a mint copy of the 1977 Gnomes book for $4 at a secondhand store. I could have bought a copy online for more money, but I was holding out.

I spoke to the person who AI-generated the Chicago Sun-Times reading list. Says he's very embarrassed. This was part of a generic package inserted into newspapers and other publications, so likely to run elsewhere. He didn't know it'd be in Chicago Sun-Times

If I attended this church in rural Iowa, that crooked cross on the steeple would consume my thoughts for the entirety of every service. Somebody needs to fix that.

Murderbot fans: If you have a Wired subscription, you can read Compulsory, a very short story which is #0.5 in the series. It is also available on Kindle, slightly tweaked (1503 words instead of 1045) & with an additional character. I didn't realize it was out there. www.wired.com/story/future...
