There’s a persistent myth that new solar farms don’t really help tackle climate change because panels are “made with coal” and “never pay back” their carbon debt.

This is simply false.

- UN: solar ~8x cleaner than gas, ~19x than coal per kWh
- panels repay CO2 in 4 months; save 57x over life

What’s really driving the rise in prevalence of autism? My @nature.com story looks at what scientists and the autism community have learned about the causes of autism and the growth in diagnoses. www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Autism is on the rise: what’s really behind the increase?
RFK Jr has vowed to find out what’s responsible, but scientists say he is ignoring answers from decades of research.

YouTube is using AI to tweak videos on its platform—without creators' knowledge. Alex Reisner reports on the concerning experiment:
YouTube’s Sneaky AI ‘Experiment’
The video platform is quietly using AI to “improve clarity” in uploaded content. Why?

Just in case there was any doubt, ChatGPT 5.0 still makes up completely random citations that don't exist and should not be used for literature search.
1. David Ackerly (UC Berkeley)

While his most-cited work is on leaf size and SLA, he also wrote explicitly about plasticity in leaf traits, including shape, in the context of ecological strategies.

Example: Ackerly (1997), “Allocation, leaf display, and growth in fluctuating light environments: A comparative study of deciduous and evergreen species” (Oecologia). This emphasizes how plasticity in leaf traits mediates adaptation to light.

Waters are much warmer than average in the western Atlantic. Our Climate Shift Index: Ocean system indicates that these warm temperatures were made over 200x more likely due to human-caused climate change.

You can track this every day at @climatecentral.org: csi.climatecentral.org/ocean?lat=29...
Map of Climate Shift Index: Ocean for 14 August 2025 showing th change in likelihood due to climate change. Most all areas in the Western Atlantic are at least 100x more likely due to climate change. Data is based on NOAA OISSTv2.1.

One of the reasons we love living in Bristol? The annual Bristol Balloon Fiesta of course! The event takes place every summer when the city sees hundreds of balloons take to the skies. Our CDT Administrator Cat took this photo from her balcony last weekend 😍

1. Federal funding for research promotes tech, biomedical, and scientific discovery in the US, and provides training for the sci/tech workforce that has brought immeasurable wealth to the US over the past 75 years.

Today's executive order includes a provision that will obliterate both functions.
