PGMOL failed to give Darren England a week off, after his blatant error as the VAR who failed to overturn Myles Lewis-Skelly’s red card last weekend.

Instead they appointed him to Bournemouth v Liverpool today and this happened.

PGMOL are not fit to run football’s officials.
PGMOL may as well hand Liverpool the title now.

Gakpo clearly trips himself up here - the referee awards the penalty and unsurprisingly, VAR sticks with the decision.

The best league, the worst officiating. But Neville and Carragher and the likes will continue to defend them.

#Arsenal fans are buying into the gaslighting at every juncture. Mikel Arteta did not blame the match ball; he did not even bring it up. He was asked specifically about it and said it was different but you have to adapt. Shameless gutter press. #AFC

Gabriel drives to the near post then cuts back to the middle. The change of direction / fake is so good that his defender falls over.

While falling, he grabs at Gabriel and cuts his legs out from under him.
This is a penalty.

Two matches since Saka’s injury, and two different players have been given a chance to replace him.

Martinelli played in straight lines against Ipswich. It didn’t seem to work. Nwaneri played 360-degree football tonight. It flowed much better. #AFC

No Saka, no Havertz, no Ben White (not enough acknowledgement that we have missed White for a lot of games), and we go to one of the best home sides in the league and win convincingly, in particular with an absolutely deadly, strangling second half led by some kids.

Very impressive.

Really good win at what is a very difficult place to go, and to come from behind feels significant too.

In the absence of Saka, we absolutely need end product from Jesus, Martinelli etc, they gave us that and we controlled it from there on.

Nwaneri a real positive on the right too. HNY!

This article was written in December 2020 when Arsenal were in 15th place. Given Manchester United are entering 2025 in 14th place, only 7 points above relegation, should we expect an article for them too? @matt-law-dt.bsky.social

David Raya has recorded 23 clean sheets in his 50 Premier League games for Arsenal, achieving a 46% clean sheet rate.

This marks a new club record for the Spaniard.

7 - No side has kept more clean sheets (7) or conceded fewer goals (16) in the Premier League this season than Arsenal, while the Gunners have kept a shutout in four successive home matches in the competition for the first time since December 2021. Mentality.

Here’s a quick game. It’s December 26th. I sit in 14th place. I have -3 goal difference. I have 1 win in my last 6 games. Yet I’m more concerned about Arsenal’s set pieces. Who am I?

Spot on—winning the Premier League needs a higher level, and we’ve got work to do
I think we need to get real about the level that is required to win a Premier League.

Still don’t get it 🥲
“With Declan I had to take him off because he was feeling something. With Martin it was a tactical decision to try to change their rhythm.”

“If Ethan comes in and he scores a goal, it’s a great sub. If he doesn’t, you have taken your captain out. That’s football.”

Arsenal have taken such extreme measures to remove chaos from matches - to control them in every conceivable way - that we've got to the point where many of the players are like robots repeatedly relying on the same patterns of play.

Arsenal:
— v Fulham: 2 shots on target allowed, draw
— v Atalanta: 1 shot on target allowed, draw
— v Inter: 0 shots on target allowed, loss
— v Everton: 0 shots on target allowed, draw

Infer what you will.

Everton have failed to score in five of their last six Premier League matches. Today was always going to be about our ability to score one goal. Just one. Lack of intensity and horseshoe of doom with aimless crossing was always going to be ineffective.
