A few comments on the @mark-carney.bsky.social platform released today. You can find it here: liberal.ca/cstrong/.

I provided some 'sounding board' advice here and there to those working on the platform. As always: I disclose, but you can decide what weight to put on that.

The presser is not very clear but if this is the age amount, it does not target employment income specifically. The Quebec credit has a phase in, like the Canada Worker's Benefit, and it is assessed on employment income only, which is quite different.

New chapter with @olijacques.bsky.social on taxation in Canada. A good primer on how we finance social protection and what drives the politics of taxation in Canada compared to other countries. Volume edited by @danielbeland.bsky.social, Rihanne Mahon & Allison Smith.

Yeah, this is about the single best summary of where we are now, using a broader democratic framing.

Glad we got through the tariff emergency (at least the first wave of it....).

Also glad that people are bringing creativity, energy, and determination to figuring out a medium and long-run response.

But I want to throw cold water on three ideas I've seen floated. I'll explain...

Hey man sorry to hear about all your political turmoil. Would it help if I scrolled around on the computer all day and drove myself insane?

The tariffs are mad; but what’s equally mad is that they somehow come as a surprise, when Trump has campaigned non-stop on this and controls all branches of government

Precious time has been lost, but it’s not too late for countries to mount an effective response 1/x

Looks like this is happening.

This great perfidy from our longstanding and close ally and friend is immensely saddening and maddening.

But it also makes me resolute to defend our country. We should and must retaliate.

A thread about what I'll be looking for in our retaliation measures....

Canada has been officially told that President Trump will impose tariffs today. Timing and specific details unknown. But it will be today. We will have extensive coverage on CBC News Network.

Here is the last of our three articles on capital gains taxation, focusing on estimated revenue and the contribution of the deceased. @lucgodbout.bsky.social
