Fear caused by the Trump admin's turbocharged immigration crackdown is keeping pregnant mothers from the hospital. They are avoiding prenatal care. Others will give birth without their husbands and spouses, who have been deported.

This stress caused by ICE makes pregnancy more dangerous.
ICE fears put pregnant immigrants and their babies at risk
Fear of deportation is deterring people without permanent legal status from critical care. Doctors are worried for their health — and the health of their pregnancies.

We're just over two weeks away from the Oct 13 deadline for @governor.ca.gov to sign or veto legislation. His office needs to hear support for our priority legislation. Today's ask: Call & ask him to support #SB59 — The Transgender Privacy Act — by @scottwiener.bsky.social. It's time to #SealTheDeal

The secret to not being lonely is finding 2-3 buddies where you share one or two passionate things in common with and being able to listen intently when they go on about something you find inane and be happy for *them*. If you can do that you’re going to be more than okay, I promise.

The memo is a thinly veiled attempt to create a nonexistent conspiracy out of activists, nonprofits, and others pursuing equality and fairness for all — but we’re not afraid.

We won't allow the government to scare us out of exercising our right to speak out.

I've seen a lot of people misunderstanding what this does and does not mean and Melissa does a great job explaining it's first and foremost a media strategy. Importantly, none of this is new and has been used against other groups and activists (Muslims/Palestinians, BLM, immigrants)

I looked into the group and the guy pushing the FBI to create a new designation of “transgender ideology–inspired violence and extremism”—itself a political project, meant to conflate the fact of trans people’s existence with extremism.
The Right’s Baseless Project to Link Trans People With Extremism
A campaign for the FBI to adopt a new designation of “transgender ideology–inspired violence and extremism” is less about law enforcement than politics.

Even in the face of the SCOTUS decision in Mahmoud v. Taylor—the latest attempt to undermine the humanity of LGBTQ+ families—parents, students, & school leaders should know that California’s robust inclusive education & anti-discrimination laws remain strong. www.aclusocal.org/en/news/cali...

there simply isn't enough coverage of the fact that, as a matter of ideology and public policy, trump and his administration think domestic violence is good
phillewis.bsky.social
Trump minimizes domestic abuse during a talk at the Museum of the Bible: "Things that take place in the home, they call crime ... If a man has a little fight with the wife, they say this was a crime, see?"

Within public interest world i've experienced being expected to track each minute and...not. The tracking does create another layer of stress on top of the actual working. And i have not experienced having my $ tied to the amt of hours documented (Biglaw) but imagine that causing additional stress.

This is basic rule of law stuff: judges need to explain their decisions so the same standards are applied across the board, and lower courts are closer to the facts and should be respected. Stunning that this needs to be explained to SCOTUS, but it shows how far the Court has strayed.

🚨EXCLUSIVE:

Federal judges tell NBC News the Supreme Court has got to do a better job of explaining emergency rulings, with frequent decisions in favor of Trump at least appearing to validate harsh criticism of the judiciary at a time of rising threats:

Ten judges tell NBC News the Supreme Court needs to explain its rulings better, with some urging Chief Justice John Roberts to do more to defend the judiciary against external criticism.

...to stream proceedings (I'd argue a sad and anachronistic thing, but still), but when they are *on Zoom anyway*, in the words of a wise colleague, it "should be incredibly easy and obvious from the court's website" how to watch, and it's a failure of government transparency when it's not.

...but then enter it on behalf of "observing" in order to watch a Superior Court hearing via Zoom. That process would be opaque and intimidating to a non-lawyer (kind of was to me, grateful for paralegal assistance with navigating it). It's one thing if a jurisdiction isn't technologically set up...

Courtrooms are open to the public (unless there's a reason why specific proceedings are sealed) for reasons including but not limited to the 1st Amendment -- so livestreams of court proceedings also need to be open to the public. This morning I had to make like I was entering an appearance...

Yes. As someone for whom it was excruciating, this seems like the right messaging for now, while work also needs to happen on mitigating the harm.

start thinking about what are the use cases *for venture capitalists*

we don't matter to them

they are making it *for them*
