Delighted to announce (ugh, can't believe I'm saying that) that Alon Lischinsky and my bibliography of Trans Media Studies is out with Oxford Bibliographies! It's basically the equivalent of a compilation tape - key works, deep cuts and things we like

Are you teaching prescriptivism this year? If so, please consider introducing your students to YourWrong.co.uk. It could form part of a seminar activity or prep! I'd also be very happy to provide some corpus examples for a small analysis task. Just get in touch!

A huge "thank you" to those who participated in our event on Wed! @aimeebailey.bsky.social did a wonderful job to put everything together and chair it beautifully! We all made a lot of notes and we look forward to getting to know more about the research of our 4 invited speakers (see post below).

I wish this didn’t feel so accurate so often.
Mary Oliver
Of The Empire
We will be known as a culture that feared death and adored power, that tried to vanquish insecurity for the few and cared little for the penury of the many. We will be known as a culture that taught and rewarded the amassing of things, that spoke little if at all about the quality of life for people (other people), for dogs, for rivers. All the world, in our eyes, they will say, was a commodity. And they will say that this structure was held together politically, which it was, and they will say also that our politics was no more than an apparatus to accommodate the feelings of the heart, and that the heart, in those days, was small, and hard, and full of meanness.

For those of you who don't know, DMU is currently proposing mass redundancies, with nearly 100 academic staff 'at risk', sadly including me. It is absolutely brutal.

Please spread the word about this protest rally happening next week in Leicester and come and support us if you're able. #DefendDMU

Engagement from our students is deeply encouraging: we are fighting these cuts because staff working conditions are student learning conditions. #DefendDMU

Just out! Our peer-reviewed critique of the Cass Review has been published by BMC Medical Research Methodology. Please read and share. We show that the Cass Review is fatally flawed and should not be the basis for policy or practice in transgender healthcare.

It was such a privilege to talk to over 800 A-level students and teachers about language, gender and sexuality, a topic that first sparked an interest during my own A-level. Thanks for inviting me and putting on a fantastic day @engmediacentre.bsky.social!
