Currently writing my first novel: an urban fantasy steeped in Irish mythology for YA readers. Donegal-dwelling bodysurfer, baker, hiker, and mountain biker.
I guess 'Golfers with Boobs,' wouldn't have narrowed it down enough.

After travelling the 12 hour round trip all the way down to Wexford, I can confidently say Ireland really doesn't do motorways very well. Despite the endless warning signs: 'Tiredness kills' there are next to no roadside services available. As for those constantly sitting in the overtaking lanes 🤬

Great to hear a scientist and environmentalist - @elainemcgoff.bsky.social - and a farmer in nitrates derogation separately say the same thing here: that the government-led drive for maximum productivity was a MASSIVE mistake, with our rivers and (now, potentially) farmers paying the price.
I had the a welcome opportunity to move beyond the standard Punch & Judy media setup to properly look under the derogation hood, & explore why the Government measures are failing our waters & failing our farmers.

Nitrates derogation
Back in the early nineties all across the EU a rule was introduced to protect rivers and streams from agricultural run off. At the last count 7,000 out of 137,000 farms in Ireland had received a derog...

But how else can they manipulate race results to ensure the title race runs right to the end of the season and so line their pockets even more? F1 has been a fix for years. Way too much money involved to let the cards fall where they may.

Obscene greed.
The Irish State is dumping €450 million of wind energy a year, despite 29% of households suffering fuel poverty, because 'there's no market'.

If you're struggling to get your head around that, it's called capitalism.

Don't understand why anyone lets their kid play Roblox in the first place.
yes let's protect children by (checks notes) forcing them to upload biometric data to a corporation that famously exploits children using targeted psychological monetisation practices, and also to a third party silicon valley techbro startup that's been caught using user data to train its AI. great!

Today, for the first time, I really experienced that role reversal so many have commented on - doing tasks FOR elderly parents which were once done BY them. For me, it was driving to the bus to meet my 79 yr old Dad and my 75 yr old Mum who just arrived back from a month's backpacking around Europe.

i just read something about grief from C.S. Lewis and his book, “A Grief Observed”

basically, when someone you love dies, it isn’t just them that you miss, but the parts of yourself that person brought out of you that can never be brought out again.

i feel that with my dad.

I wonder at what point we will collectively start ignoring governments, media moguls and celebrity grifters or influencers, and just get back to living our lives in peace.
Climate breakdown is driven by a storm of lies. This lying is systemic, funded and coordinated, and operates across almost all media, old and new.
This week's column argues that we cannot fight the climate crisis without also fighting the epistemic crisis.
