If you are interested in neural manifolds, dimensionality, brain states, and/or top-down modulation you are gonna like this one! 🧠🙈💫🧪

"Neural manifolds in V1 change with top-down signals from V4 targeting the foveal region" doi.org/10.1016/j.ce...

Also enjoy this animation :) #SciArt #neuroskyence

NEW | Surging wind and solar power helped make electricity in Spain CHEAPER than in most European countries.

📈 As wind and solar grows…
📉 …The influence of costly fossil fuels on the electricity price shrinks

Woah! Late to the party, but congrats!! 🥳

If you need some spontaneous spike data, I can send it your way 😆

I've been waiting some years to make this joke and now it’s real:

I conned somebody into giving me a faculty job!

I’m starting as a W1 Tenure-Track Professor at Goethe University Frankfurt in a week (lol), in the Faculty of CS and Math

and I'm recruiting PhD students 🤗

Undecided which workshop to attend at #BernsteinConference ?

We put together a stellar lineup for a satellite workshop on the effects of top-down signals on neuronal dynamics! 🧠✨📣

Join us tomorrow in room 0.101 !

Our preprint has been accepted at #NeurIPS2025! 🎉

I will be presenting TMCL in just two weeks at the #BernsteinConference. Hope to see some of you there! @bernsteinneuro.bsky.social

Many thanks to my advisor Willem Wybo, and to Emre Neftci for the great support.

New #NeuroAI preprint on #ContinualLearning!

Continual learning methods struggle in mostly unsupervised environments with sparse labels (e.g. parents telling their child the object is an 'apple').
We propose that in the cortex, predictive coding of high-level top-down modulations solves this! (1/6)

Very excited for this year Bernstein! @bernsteinneuro.bsky.social

We'll bring a bunch of new work, here's a thread with the summaries.

Please check them out if you are interested in (low rank) RNN and distributed computations.

On the first workshop talk (Monday), I'll make the case that everything might be everywhere when you decode, but that is not the end of the story: different regions have very different dynamics and encoding geometries.

This workshop is organized by @aitormg.bsky.social and @ackurth.bsky.social

gave a short lecture this morning on principles of computational modelling, always try to stress the point made by @romainbrette.bsky.social that adding details to a model does not automatically make it more realistic.

The wooden airplane model has more 'details' but only the paper model can fly
Slide with title 'Details vs realism' showing a picture of a wooden model airplane on left and a paper airplane on right.

The shitty first draft is and always will be the number one strategy for writing well.

Editing is a craft you can hone. Writing from scratch is a different dumpster fire every time you put a pen to a blank page.

Appreciate @davidpoeppel.bsky.social's reminder to scientists of their role in this time, at #CCN2025 (the reminder may be even more pertinent to non-US colleagues who have a chance to prevent the some of the worst effects before they really arrive)

📰 I really enjoyed writing this article with @thetransmitter.bsky.social! In it, I summarize parts of our recent perspective article on neural manifolds (www.nature.com/articles/s41...), with a focus on highlighting just a few cool insights into the brain we've already seen at the population level.
