How does art contribute to science?
My friend @eliza-coli.bsky.social and I 'talked' about this in a comic!
I'm preparing some lectures for my trip to NL to talk about visual scicomm and this is such a nice excuse to look back at my body of work rather than just the current deadline.

And with this last submission... All the hard work for my master's on Bioinformatics and Statistics is completed! All I have left is the viva!

Working on my master's and PhD at the same time has been quite a challenge, but I can say I have survived the experience!

@evapillai.bsky.social and I had fun writing a brief comment www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... (originally featuring an enlightening comparison to a soufflé au fromage that unfortunately disappeared from the final version per Science house style)

We're looking up instead of down for April's Microbe of the Month. Niallia tiangongensis was isolated 400 km above Earth on the the surface hardware of the Chinese space station. Read about this discovery and other novel microbes in #IJSEM by clicking the link in our bio 🌍

SCOOP: You've heard about the NIH terminating grants. I've learned of another, less visible way it's disrupting science: It’s removing some applications from peer review. Not rejecting them, but putting them on hold without saying why or if they'll ever be reviewed. www.chronicle.com/article/the-...
The Quiet Way the NIH Is Stalling Some Research Before It Starts
A number of grant proposals have disappeared from scientists’ review pipelines, with little explanation. Applicants are bewildered and frustrated.

What a brilliant talk by @phoebecrossley.bsky.social today at #Microbio2025 about gynaecological conditions and the vaginal microbiome. Coming out of endometriosis awareness month is so refreshing hearing about current research in the field!

Almost 8 years after starting this project finally happy to share the main research from my PhD! Couldn't have done it without the amazing help from @ainsley-beaton.bsky.social! We untangled a fascinating new redox sensor with the most extraordinary growth phenotype (I'm biased) in Streptomyces!
