'We as a movement are small, but powerful, because we are right. You have the power to change the narrative in Scotland. I want to see people not complaining about the next crisis, but how to fix it, and that starts with tax'

Panel finishes with some great Q&A on how we can make sure people are proud to pay tax, and what 'fairness' should mean in respect of the contributions of the highest income and wealth households; and how reform of (shockingly bad) Scottish property taxes can be made central to the next election

'Tax is our social superpower' says @alexcobham.bsky.social of the global @taxjustice.net tells the #TaxJusticeScotland conference.

'Every second I've been talking, the equivalent of a nurse's salary is lost to a tax haven'

Think of what that money could do globally.

Personally pleased to see stuff like this from Tax Justice Scotland coming out, pushing harder on the extremely urgent need to replace Council Tax. A property value tax based on values from when I wasn't even a year old (I am *35*) is utterly unfit for any purpose!

It is important that we do not separate politics from economics.

Extreme wealth disparities undermine our democracy, increase political inequality & makes us vulnerable to the arbitrary power of oligarchs.

Here are a couple of graphs illustrating the extreme concentration of material resources 👇🏻

Without action families with children will see their disposable income fall over this parliament. Couples with children £750 worse off, lone parents £780.That’s electorally perilous.

Scrapping the 2 child limit and creating a minimum floor in universal credit would offset the fall.

Setting aside the lies & errors that seem to have made up more or less the entire speech, it's just *weird* for a country to be represented in front of the world this way. ‘Your countries are going to hell’/London Sharia Law/I'm brilliant, etc. Not 'fiery', weird.

That is before you look at personal cost to those people directly affected, the lives destroyed, all to play to racists. There's nothing "legitimate" about any so called "concerns" which lead to supporting anything like what Farage proposes. It's out and out xenophobia and racism. No ifs or buts. 3/

Rather than saving £230 billion, as claimed, it would end the economy, cause widespread closures, and loss of jobs for everyone, cost hundreds of billions, including loss of taxes, cripple health, education and infrastructure services. Everyone is worse off with hostile immigration policies. 2/
