I worked alongside Alex for a year, and in that time, it's wild how much he taught me: invaluable skills and experience and an epic catch for any newsroom. Someone snatch him, fast.
Personal news: After almost nine years, Snopes and I have parted ways.

If you are looking for an experienced writer, creative investigator, and/or science journalist to do investigative work in or outside of journalism, please consider hiring me!

Pete Hegseth, Donald Trump’s choice to lead the Department of Defense, refused to answer a question regarding whether he’d follow an order from Trump to shoot at demonstrators.

The 14th Amendment is clear. If you are born on American soil, you are an American.

Btw my own parents were not US citizens when i was born.

Share this with your Senators and tell them to vote against RFK's nomination!

The problem with this is that you can't rebuild trust in institutions by acknowledging that the cranks have a seed of truth, that just gives power to the cranks that they're going to use to keep tearing down the institutions because their arguments, and this is important, aren't in good faith.
In “Good on Paper,” @jerusalem.bsky.social speaks with a pro-vaccine doctor who argues that RFK Jr.’s critics need to acknowledge the “seeds of truth” to some of his critiques, and the fact that many Americans are skeptical of public-health institutions.

Lots of horrible and dangerous people are right about "some things." it's even easier when you lie about what you've said in the past, too.

A thing a lot of people don't understand about journalism is that a big part of the job is chasing leads that don't pan out and never get published.
Hegseth has said that he got into West Point but didn’t attend.

We asked West Pt public affairs, which told us twice on the record that he hadn’t even applied there.

We reached out. Hegseth's spox gave us his acceptance letter.

We didn't publish a story.

That's journalism.

a boring point I would make on blocklists is that journalists will often need to follow questionable people, because it can be part of our jobs, so you may be throwing the baby out with the bathwater by subscribing to any list that's based on "everyone who follows X or Y"
