Good news from Colorado: A U.S. District Judge ordered a school district to restore library books they banned by next week, prohibiting the district from further restrictions on access to books that the school board objects to politically.

Federal judge orders Colorado district to return banned books to school libraries
The order prohibits the school board from removing books “because the district disagrees with the views expressed therein or merely to further their preferred political or religious orthodoxy.”

What he said about Social Security payments has been repeatedly debunked - so the question isn’t whether he’s lying about this, the question is why.

What is this a pretext for? He and the GOP have long shown interest in going after Social Security. What are they going to try?

So the world's richest man spends a fortune backing Trump and is given the go-ahead to...

-Run an "efficiency" agency despite having billions in govt contracts

-Replace civil servants with his own cronies

-Gain access to sensitive Treasury payment systems

See the problem?

The political origins of state capacity in most western counties are viewed as deep historical & structural. Overwhelmingly dominated by bellicist accounts. We assume a well formed state preceded democracy: Which means we are flat footed watching the politically motivated hollowing out of the state.

So if I’m understanding today correctly, the world’s richest person Elon Musk, whom no one elected, is taking over federal payment systems and employee data while the federal employees who investigate and prosecute public corruption are being fired en masse.

Not-so-fun fact:

In 2024, the combined salaries of 2M federal employees totaled $213B (avg. $106K each, per OMB).

Coincidentally, Elon Musk’s net worth rose by $213B in 2024 (per Bloomberg).

Helps to put in perspective where the real inefficiencies lie.

Response to an executive order titled "Defending women" involves removing gender pronouns from signatures and removing gender identity from forms (sex is M and F only). How in the blazes does this have ANYTHING to do with defending women? This is about oppression and fear. chcoc.gov/content/init...

If the FAA director got fired over a business beef AND there was an air traffic controller hiring freeze despite huge shortages AND a chaotic blitz to hollow out federal bureaucracy, and then within a week the first American airliner crashes in 16 years, you would be insane not to talk about it all.

It’s far too soon to ascribe responsibility for the horrific DC plane collision, but it’s not too soon to say that dismantling the safeguards afforded by a functioning federal government put us at significant risk. And it’s irrefutable that, since January 20th, we are all less safe.

The president can veto or support legislation. He can make recommendations to Congress. But he doesn't have the unilateral right to change laws.

Trump has very little respect for the rule of law & our Constitution. He is moving us toward authoritarianism.

We must stop him.

Libraries are an amazing resource for all kinds of knowledge!
For those who might be unaware or just getting a library card: libraries are for more than just books! Many have a Library of Things with a variety of tools & equipment you can check out. Bike pumps, sewing machines, yard games, even power drills, for hobbies & home needs. #booksky

If you're feeling overwhelmed, it's intentional. They're calling it "flooding the zone." The intent is to overwhelm and exhaust us so we can not effectively resist. Something simple you can do right now now is to make sure to take breaks and rest.

Book Bans are real and are happening throughout the states. Books are and always have been political.
The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights has announced that it is arbitrarily dismissing student and parent complaints arising out of public schools’ documented acts of censorship and discrimination.
Our response: Book bans are real.
