If you were chilly riding in to work this morning, it might be a good day to check out my guide for dressing for the weather on a bike. My site also has a printable template for keeping notes on what you wore and how it felt if you want to create your own! allweeksend.neocities.org/Guide

I’d be very interested to see updated polling numbers on mayor Johnson.

Looks like temps will be dropping this week. Check out my guide if you want some tips on dressing to ride in the cooler weather. Might be a good refresher, even for experienced all-weather cyclists!

Not necessarily the most productive day, but thankfully I have the time.

IT updated my computer to win11 so I’ve spent the day editing registry keys and messing with settings so things sort of function.

This is from a video on X, showing inside the Broadview ICE facility when Noem was in town on Fri.

For context, she's in the central room with 15 workstations setup to process detained individuals, whether they were arrested by immigration enforcement or at protests.

See the orange triangles?
Kristi Noem inside the ICE facility at 1930 Beach St. in Broadview, IL. She is standing near a white man, smiling at a desk with a computer monitor and printer. Behind her is a cell door with a man looking out a narrow slit window. Next to him, three or four other men are seen through a larger window in the cell.

Behind the white man are two upside down "demo bags" taped up over the windows to another cell.

On Chicago’s NW side from 1854 to 1970 there was a “civil commitment and forced medical care” institution called Dunning Asylum, later the Chicago State Hospital.

People realized during construction in the 1990s they were building on mass graves of poor and mentally ill people.

There is precedent.

So-called #genAI means the abolition of the future through the proliferation of endless streams of stochastically rendered generic pasts. Having turned large parts of the cultural archive into training data, it now traps us in a foreverized pastness, a 24/7 nostalgia for a past that never existed

Still, Perry says the Trump administration deserves a chance to read the complaint. And so does she.

Perry tells Hamilton the "deadline to respond in writing" is Wednesday at midnight.

Tonight of all nights I’m going to re-up my benediction for Chicago.

We are everything.

No matter what happens in the coming weeks, we are Chicago. We rose from the ashes. We never quit.&10;&10;We are the lake in the morning, the sun rising over the water, its reflection drawing a line straight to our shores.&10;&10;We are the Haymarket Martyrs, the Pullman strikers, always demanding better than what we've got.&10;&10;We are the words of Sandburg and Algren and Brooks and Wright.&10;&10;We are the 90s Bulls, making the impossible possible.&10;&10;We are the dipped Italian Beef. Messy, sure, but incredible.&10;&10;We are the humidity in the summer, the frostbitten cheeks in the winter.&10;&10;We are smoke-kissed rib tips.&10;&10;We are elotes on the street. We are pierogis in a pot.&10;&10;We are Curtis singing Hush now child.

If it's really an invasion (and it is) then maybe we need to do something beyond just calling it what it is. Close the borders? Deploy Illinois Guard to protect us? Some kind of economic sanctions against Texas or the US?

You said you would protect your people. It's time for action.

We must now start calling this what it is: Trump’s Invasion. It started with federal agents, it will soon include deploying federalized members of the Illinois National Guard against our wishes, and it will now involve sending in another state’s military troops.

if you ask the average American to describe what they think a tougher immigration system should look like, they will describe something a degree of magnitude softer and more generous than the current reality.

The lesson here is that people are both better and dumber than they appear.

As I keep saying, there's an open lane for a party or candidate to run on fighting corruption and inequality - and calling out all the BS bigotry that distracts people from it.

Thinking about this whole "Dems need to move right on abortion to win in red states" thing. Since this spring we have been asking different variations of this RCN-ish inclusive populism message, and the results are like - blinding. There's just broad, almost overwhelming 🧵

Statement on Abuse of Power of ICE and Other Federal Agents in Chicago
On October 3, 2026 Alderwoman Jessie Fuentes (26th) witnessed ICE agents attempting to detain a patient at a clinic in her ward - a patient seeking medical care after ICE allegedly used excessive force and broke his leg. When Ald. Fuentes asked the agents for an arrest warrant - a basic constitutional requirement - they refused and instead unjustifiably put her in handcuffs.
Showing a warrant before detention is not optional; it's a cornerstone of constitutional law. And yet,
ICE agents continue to ignore this requirement.
This is not new, nor is it an isolated incident. ICE agents continue to violate civil liberties with impunity, and if we continue to allow this erosion of due process to go unchecked, we risk undermining the foundation of our democracy.
Due process is not negotiable. We will not stay silent. We must stand together to demand accountability. What's playing out day-by-day is a warning that we must organize and not relent.
Speak out and show up. Go to ICE watch trainings. Learn your rights so you can protect the rights of those around you.
And we, as members of the City Council hold firm that it will take a coalition all of us, united across racial and ethnic communities, political leanings, ages and socioeconomic status, to stand up to the disturbing pattern of abuse from ICE and the federal government, and the complete disregard for the rights we hold as Americans. NOTE: Brendan Reilly is running for Cook County Board President, meaning that he wants a lot of authority over the budget for the sheriff and the jail and the state's attorney and the public defender

But he won't even sign a statement in support of due process when his own colleague was attacked.

Some context that I think gets lost by calling people here "protesters." Strictly true that they were protesting. But this was neighborhood. Almost all of it was people who came out of their houses and pleaded to stop using gas because there were kids in houses/yards in the blocks off Kedzie.

This framing is absolutely wild considering that they’re spending their days splitting up families. Do they think nazi gestapo or secret police were not fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters? Regular people can commit heinous acts and do all the time!
From dhs.gov “Comparing ICE day-in and day-out to the Nazi Gestapo, the Secret Police, and slave patrols has consequences. The men and women of ICE and CBP are fathers and mothers, sons and daughters. They get up every morning to try and make our communities safer. Like everyone else, they just want to go home to their families at night. The violence and dehumanization of these men and women who are simply enforcing the law must stop. We are praying for our law enforcement and their families. This is an evolving situation, and we will give the public more information as soon as it becomes available.”
