It’s just so dark and weird to feel hesitant publicly sharing thoughts like “democracy is good” and “kids shouldn’t die from preventable diseases,” while living in Sweden with Swedish heritage and citizenship. I can’t imagine how anyone in the US feels right now.

I regret to inform you that I’ve used up all my coherent thoughts for the week. What remains is a jumble of booking pony riding, reading about fixed-effect models, and drafting emails I immediately forget to send. #PhDLife #AcademicSky

I didn't want to watch this because who wants to listen to him.

But I watched it.

Because not turning away is the only path towards acknowledging where we are and where we are heading.

Because he isn't just a racist old man, he's the President of the United States.

Saying this.
Trump goes on another racist rant about Somalis: "Ilhan Omar should be thrown the hell out of our country, and most of those people -- they have destroyed Minnesota. It's a hellhole right now. Those Somalians should be out of here. They have destroyed out country ... go back to your own country."

How December of me to invent a new week, and how crushing it was to realise that that’s what I did. Apparently next week isn’t two weeks away.

Har idag skrivit om förlossningsrädda kvinnor och skepsis mot sjukvård. Att vi måste ta dem på allvar, annars kommer barn att dö. Och om en av de märkligaste situationerna jag var med om på läkarlinjen.

Yeah, so after years of unbelievably depressing news, it somehow feels like we’re hitting a new low lately?
Anyway, today my kid hung out with goats and I’m not planning on thinking about anything else.

mRNA vaccines are a game-changer. Faster to develop, generally safer, easy to modify, huge potential for wider applications (e.g. cancer). If the vaccine has been approved, it's already been thoroughly tested in randomised controlled trials. Nobody's trying to poison anyone with these vaccines.

Trans Day of Remembrance

If you've lost a family member or friend because of violence or rejection, I support and affirm you today

*I support and affirm your lost one*

Tomorrow I support and affirm our trans siblings who don't need to be remembered yet because they're living their best lives

I’m ambitious but not competitive, and every time people talk about funding like it’s a sport, I feel like the exact wrong kind of person for academia. I want to do good work, not “win.”. #AcademicSky #PhDLife #GrantWriting

On yesterday’s episode of “does Alma even have a single clue what she’s doing?” we had my surprised realisation that time-to-event and survival analysis are the same thing.
Stay tuned for more unimpressive thinking!

Having an aunt who’s been collecting puzzles and stuffies since the 90s, whose home looks like a pink toy store, and who absolutely adores you is truly a blessing for my kid. For me, it’s a gift to see their relationship grow.
