Little crocheted potato sitting on a bookshelf holding a sign saying positive potato. I may be a tiny potato but I believe in you. Go do your thing.

Before the church presentation the Met was presenting on new signage in the great hall and I don’t think they expected the massive audience 🤣

Yes. First the plan includes a space for the church. The congregation itself would get the money - they intend to pay their debts and hire a pastor and for operating costs but 20-30 million of it would go to an endowed social justice fund for food, housing, education, immigrant & health services.
ehahnmd.bsky.social
They think the cost is being inflated by the congregation to get a cush development deal.

The Center claims they will pay both rent and can afford to do the repairs to save the church!

Watching the community board preservation committee meeting: apparently the public notice signs for the meeting were being ripped down. They had to make an announcement about appropriate conduct. They expect they won’t get to everyone today and will have a second meeting.

We may be heading quickly towards authoritarianism and global warming is gonna be the end of us all but there is some local drama that involves celebrities so that seems worthy of a distraction thread 🧵… welcome to the West Park Presbyterian Church fiasco…

This battle has been framed as David and Goliath. But I’m not sure who is who… is David the small community arts org going up against a real estate developer? Or is David the congregation of 12 fighting a Goliath of landmark laws and celebrity activists?

Tonight there will be a new public community board meeting on the landmark status. I suspect Mark Ruffalo and Matt Dillion and many other celebrities will be there. The congregation announced today that a sale would allow them to use 30 million to support their community social justice fund…

The church refused the donation saying it was nowhere near enough. They moved to evict the Center and withdrew their hardship petition while they fought with their tenant. And 5 years after they announced wanting to sell and 25 years after the scaffolding went up, the Center was evicted this summer…

The Center, some neighborhood activists and with them some celebrities wanted to save the church. they started an organization called Friends of West Park and raised money to save the church. This little community arts center was suddenly staging star studded events. The raised $7 million…
ehahnmd.bsky.social
So the church went to the Landmark Commission and claimed hardship and asked to be un-landmarked so they could sell. They estimated that repairs would cost $50 million. One of the tenants of the building is a community arts center. And here’s where the celebrities enter the story…

There is little value in a church that is falling apart. Anyone who would buy it would be buying it for the land. Land that would be used to build a residential high rise. They had a buyer willing to pay $33 million. But there was a catch-The building was Landmarked and couldn’t be knocked down…

There is a Church on the Upper West Side in Manhattan that has fallen into disrepair. The congregation is dwindling with 12 people. The church has had a scaffolding for decades because they cannot afford the repairs needed to the facade to keep it safe. The congregation wanted to sell…

The extremely flawed study he’s talking about was Danish and the circumcised kids were Muslim. But not only was their interpretation of the correlation poor, they also found that 90% of the Muslim boys with autism weren’t circumcised which just … cannot be true.

All conspiracy theories eventually lead to antisemitism.

Besides linking Tylenol in pregnant women to autism, RFK Jr. now says circumcision is part of the reason why kids are autistic.

"Children who are circumcised early have double the rate of autism, and it's highly likely because they're given Tylenol. None of this is positive..."

Can @dieworkwear.bsky.social explain what’s going on with his arms looking like they’re coming out of his jacket well below his shoulders?

It's interesting seeing the different ways resistance has formed in different cities. Los Angeles Organized, Chicago Radicalized, and Portland Got Weird as Fuck. All 3 have had success unifying their respective cities.

I guess my point is there are multiple paths to ungovernability.

this feels like the corollary to we need Mamdani in NYC and an oyster fisherman in Maine and a midwestern dad in Minnesota.

we're supposed to be the party that embraces the fact that we're a diverse and chaotic nation, stop test-polling yourself to generic national oatmeal!!!

I was participating in an early poll and they listed different combinations of candidates and the cuomo/sliwa/Adams ballot gave me palpitations.
