Barely an hour ago, Palestinian journalist Anas Al-Sharif warned us all:

“If this madness doesn’t end, Gaza will be reduced to ruins, its people’s voices silenced, their faces erased — and history will remember you as silent witnesses to a genocide you chose not to stop.”

Israel just killed him.

As someone who works in the children’s comics industry I would like to share my thoughts on this: Fuuuuuuuck offffffff.

Also can't believe this was almost 20 years ago. Still think of it as new music ☠️😬

Did you ever hear a band or a piece of music that sounds like it was made *just for you*, perfectly attuned to you? Burial is that for me. Couldn't believe what I was hearing. Still can't.

This is amongst the most impactful two minutes of broadcasting I’ve ever seen.

Recently posted that people who say they can't draw can actually draw, they just need to practice.
The reaction from people who insist they can't draw was that it's bollocks & practice will never make you better at skills you don't have.
Then I had to explain that desire to practice is also crucial.

Had a couple of folk say they wanted to make comics but couldn’t draw well enough. So PSA: if you make the thing, you get better at the drawing (and the writing) in the process of making the thing. And then the next one is a bit better, and so on and so forth. Making “crap” stuff is allowed.

The Beano *routinely* sells out where I live. I got the very last one on the shelf in Easons last week. Big appetite for comics out there.

It’s worth emphasising that comics have managed to get this far with a fraction of the space on store shelves, a minuscule amount of titles compared to prose, basically no public funding, no support in the curriculum, etc. What would the impact be if comics received support & resources?

@markbradley.bsky.social makes an important point here. For a medium which has been (and still is by some parents) REALLY looked down upon, children’s comics are engaging readers again in a big way. That’ll keep going if, as a country, we could just give comics a bit more space and prominence.

I never, ever want to hear again that women are too emotional to be leaders.

Grandaddy opening for the Super Furry Animals in the Olympia. They only played six songs but blew the roof off the place and nobody wanted to hear SFA after that.
