Dooku basically figured he'd go along with Palpatine's war long enough to grind down his two biggest enemies at the same time (feckless Jedi and The Corporate Elite), but then kill Palpatine at the finish line to establish a Theocracy of the Force instead of the Empire.

There's no "Women are X, Men are Y," in Chalker's books, just "People are," and gender roles are always portrayed as oppressive.

Chalker also makes the point that revolutions without a commitment to civil rights inevitably end up creating new oppressors.

A lot of Jack Chalker's work deals with people being trapped in bodies that don't fit them.

Part of it might be that it was a fetish, but a lot of it does seem to come from a place of understanding when it comes to gender.

Not all of it has aged well but Soul Rider was saying that biological essentialism is toxic nonsense at a time when being transgender was still seen as a mental illness.

The book takes it as a matter of fact that people should transition if they need/want to and that it's unjust to deny them that.

She became a fascist in part because hyper-masculinity was a way of denying the truth about herself and all that changed after she was forcibly transitioned was she went from misogynist to misandrist.

I'm still surprised a book series from the 1980s outright said transitioning is mental healthcare.

Say what you will about the rise of the far right in recent US/European history and whether one is worse or not, the US is indisputably better positioned to fight and beat ours back because we're kinda the only ones left with a liberal/left-leaning party that isn't utterly moribund at this point.
