I went to three Christmas Nine Lessons services this year, and in two of them was lucky enough to be sat very near to someone who could sing the descant. Wonderful. Sheffield Cathedral was the last one.

Xmas decs up at last. There is more tinsel around but more out of reach of certain members of the household who will try and nibble it.

Eddie is "helping" me make my Christmas cards. If helping meant placing his whole body over the things I'm trying to use.

Half watching the King's Man & sound a bit low but it looked like a plot point was about offering up a young pretty man to Rasputin as a sex toy. Thought surely I was mistaken...but no. Then a strange pseudo sex scene between Rasputin & the Ralph Fiennes character. An odd film.

Seeing how much of the right-wing on Twitter is just bot farms, kinda lays bare how much hate and hatred is a project that needs to be constantly maintained, a fire that needs to be fed all the time lest it go out for a moment, so much time, effort, and resources to keep people angry and hateful.

"Come here and let me smell your scab", just one of the sweet nothings you should expect to say to your cat at some point, and probably on more than one occasion.

Watching TOTP 1981 on BBC2 and hearing Phil Collins's In the Air Tonight thinking that there will be so many people, like me, who can no longer hear that song without thinking of a man in a gorilla suit playing the drums.

Travelling on the train day after the Covid review reports, perhaps reminding people of the importance of masks and not spreading their viruses. But nope, people with raging colds, hopefully not covid or flu, merrily wearing no masks and coughing and sneezing away.

the actual suicide of the West will be combining a rapidly aging population with hostility to migrants. however we must give credit to East Asia, especially Japan, for pioneering this model.

Glasgow is such a great city. Obviously I love Sheffield (home) but how much better the city centre would be if we hadn't had the abomination of Meadowhall created. Didn't see all the xmas lights but this reindeer was quite spectacular.

I don't get why the selling point for the Volvo XC70 seems to be it has a totally annoying driver assist function, comparable to an over-nervous and over-interventionist parent. And of course another ridiculously over-large vehicle.

Eddie seeing if he can find the RSPCA's number as he has both had a small head wound cleaned and some belly support stuff forced on him this evening. A terrible time according to Eddie.

The whole of the HMRC Board got me to present to them about the opportunities and risks of AI about 18 months ago and my main messages were be very careful with high stakes decision making and remember the Horizon Post Office scandal which was about governance and accountability…
Somebody at HMRC needs to be canned for this idiotic ‘fraud-detection’ idea. And I fear future use of AI in welfare cases might well produce this kind of story regularly (as they have in Nevada for example).

Lots of hard, shitty lessons being learned from this presidency. And one of the many I hope you're learning is, white supremacy is incompatible with reality, and cannot exist without historical revisionism.

The BBC should serve as an example to all that there is nothing you can give the far rabid right that will satisfy it.

It has simpered, pandered, soft-balled and fluff-jobbed, both-sidesed and debased itself into being a platform for liars to look down the camera and lie on, & it still gets fucked.

Yes really — the “we asked this guy. He doesn’t actually know jack shit but he’s rich” model of reportage really needs to go
theres a whole category of newstertainment thats gotta go. and its "ask a really rich freak who is also evil and directly stealing from you what hes seen on the computer lately that has made him feel bad." the only -- ONLY -- story about this guy worth exploring is: he is getting rich spying on you
