The Alt National Park Service has a new hobby, and it's more upsetting than I could have imagined.

AltNPS thought the real terror and suffering of people being targeted by ICE just wasn't juicy enough, so they decided to punch things up a little.

You can read more here:

To be more clear about a key thing here:

this is a DeSantis law

and a state supreme court that he's pretty much hand-picked allowed it
Just in: Florida's supreme court today has UPHELD a recent state law that enables juries to sentence someone to death nonunanimously.

Bolts reported on FL's law a few years ago, amid huge concern that nonunanimous convictions have a high error rate, & are likelier to sideline Black jurors.

NB: When I, a professor of law, profess that an act is unlawful, I am not doing it to inform the lawbreaker, but rather to inform you, the reader.

So the question “what, like you think he cares?” is inapposite. The question is whether *you* care. I think you should, which is why I bother.

If you’re looking for something to do, start working on overturning citizens united in your state. States control the power corporations have. Take their political power away with a ballot initiative. Here’s how: open.substack.com/pub/robertre...
How to Get Rid of "Citizens United"
We can do away with it without a new Supreme Court. Nor do we need a constitutional amendment. There’s a far simpler way.

Polling: "Do you think the rich have too much political power in the U.S.?"

Yes: 80%
No: 8%

Independent voters are 81%/6% on this; even Trump voters are 68%/18%.

Maybe a political party could lead on this issue.

If you think Trump's bad polling doesn't matter, I hope you reconsider after tonight's elections. Maybe his unpopularity doesn't affect *his* behavior, but it definitely impacts tons of other people—including many GOP voters who are either switching sides or staying home.

"Never spread the lie in the headline" should be a hard rule of 21st century journalism.

Research shows that repeating lies helps to spread them, and people read headlines more than they read stories.
News media has to do better with headlines that present false and unverified public health claims.
