Lloyd Austin and a lot of military officers have said this repeatedly. It was, foolishly, viewed as the last gasp that might get the Supreme Court hold back from gutting affirmative action.

Costco has said repeatedly that diversity makes them money. In this Costco is unique. Not that diversity makes companies stronger and better - there's a ton of data on this. But that they aren't so racist that they're willing to leave money on the table to be racist.

One thing I think people talking about the threat of authoritarian creep have gotten, if not exactly wrong, not quite right either is to frame discussion in terms of various European precedents.
Those are relevant to be sure, but we also have an American precedent - namely the South before 1965.
