We are two MS librarians with over 30 yrs combined experience in school libraries who are advocating for a new publishing category that focuses on the forgotten age range of kids that are too old for MG books and too young for much of what is being published for young adults.

@idislikestephen.bsky.social I just listened to my first #Annahstasia songs after seeing your "making us happy" rec in the #PCHH newsletter. THANK YOU for introducing me to the loveliest moments of my day (maybe the whole week). You've made me a fan.🎶

You aren't letting anyone down by taking a day off from the news.

The shitshow will be there tomorrow.

Others can churn rage on your behalf while you breathe and keep yourself safe.

You are not doing patriotism wrong by ensuring you don't lose your mind every single moment of every single day.

MG librarians—what do you think? What other titles can you think of that are popular with your students that fit at least 3 of the #YoungTeenLit criteria?
#itstimeforyoungteenlit
What does #YoungTeenLit look like? We’ve started a list of new titles mixed with tried-and-true favorites from our school libraries. What titles for ages 12-15 that hit our criteria are we missing here so we can grow our list to help MG librarians?

MS librarian & #mglit author friends: we would love your support for a new category focused on ages 12-15 called #youngteenlit. See this article written by me and @overbooked.bsky.social that outlines the need for it.

You can refer to it as Trump's executive order entitled “Ending Radical Indoctrination in K-12 Schooling.” It's here: www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

Just called my NYC City Council person, my NY state rep, and my NY state senator to ask them to state publicly that New York will NOT respect or enforce Trump's anti-trans and anti-history executive order. Highly recommend you call your LOCAL officials to make the same demand.

A great app / website that (based upon a zip code you supply) will pull together the phone numbers and relevant reps for issues. You can click to dial and they provide a useful script.

The app is the same name.

Here's how you can find all your federal and state elected representatives--including governor and state reps/senators. For city, google your city + "city council" or look on your city's official page. (Shy-person script in next post.)

What I'm saying (crib/edit as needed): "Hi, I'm a constituent. I'm horrified by Trump's recent anti-trans executive orders. This is morally wrong, & affects so many people in our commonwealth. I'm calling to ask you to publicly state that MA won't comply with them. Thank you for representing me."

Okay, I cannot recommend 5calls.org enough. Enter your address and it will find all your reps (federal and state). AND give you a list of issues to call about AND which reps to call about each of them AND a little script for each, in case it's helpful. They have an app, too.

It’s not cynical to ask for y’all to take action against these illegal and unconstitutional executive orders being pushed out. We feel like y’all are doing nothing to push back. We don’t have power until primaries, we need y’all to fight back.
Being nice to a fascist never works in anyones favor.

Thank you to Mrs. Timm, who always made this shy, lonely, bullied kid feel like she belonged at the public library; and to Mrs. Casey, my middle school librarian, for igniting my love of finding answers via your weekly "Calendar Clue" game.
It's been a hard few years for teachers & librarians, yet they're still doing their incredible & irreplaceable work. There's nothing more inspiring than hearing about those moments when they ignited a child's love of reading - so please share your stories & memories, let's fill Bluesky with them!
Oh yes! thank you Mr Lloyd at Upper Beeding primary, for reading every class you ever taught, The Hobbit.

I've always loved the fact that the word 'sneeze' is the result of a historical accident. The original form, in the Middle Ages, was 'fnese', but someone mistook the 'f' for the long medieval 's' and wrote down 'sn-' instead.

Fneezing sounds much more like a proper, nasal sneeze.
