I think we need to remember that even his friends say Tuberville is "dumb as a bag of rocks."

Earlier this week Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance — a public-private partnership that does more than any other organization to get vaccines to people in poor countries — reported that its vaccines saved a record-breaking 1.7 million people in 2024. That’s 400,000 more lives saved than in 2023.
2024 was a record-setting year for lifesaving vaccines

9-month-old Mohamat died of malaria in Cameroon. Before U.S. aid cuts, he likely would have survived. Malaria deaths are rising after years of progress. Abrupt and irresponsible budget cuts can have deadly consequences.
Babies' deaths in Cameroon show how US aid cuts curtail malaria fight
Nine-month-old baby Mohamat burned with fever for three days before his family took him to the closest health centre in northern Cameroon, but it was too late. He died of malaria that day.

CDC is being run by politicians now.

"there are few experienced leaders left at the CDC; some 80% of..center leaders were laid off or terminated, or have [left]. Houry was the only permanent career official in CDC's office of the director... there were 10 political appointees remaining, she said."

a respected senior CDC official telling the public that the federal agency has undergone a hostile takeover and it barely makes the news because that’s the state of the world today

This is another damning picture of Kennedy refusing to meet with senior scientists and get advice about infections or vaccines whilst he spreads disinformation #healthpolicy

Health care chaos. Reckless cuts. Rising costs. Michiganders and families across the country are paying the price for RFK Jr.’s agenda. Enough is enough, which is why I’m drafting articles of impeachment.

Things today's White House autism announcement did not do:

-Discuss strategies to increase supports and services for autistic people/families
-Highlight why autistic people and families deserve respect, not pity or fear
-Endorse one speck of autism research that is not dangerous pseudoscience

"I’m not a doctor," President Trump said yesterday. That acknowledged lack of medical credentials did not stop him from offering medical opinions on risk factors for autism that the preponderance of the scientific evidence does not support. www.statnews.com/2025/09/22/t...

Quote of the day from bsky.app/profile/kkje...
"I’ve never heard a faster fire hose of rumors and falsehoods coming from the highest office of the nation — at the very same time measles cases are at some of the highest rates we’ve seen in decades,”

Again today CDC scientists showed mettle and expertise, in the face of a chaotic meeting filled with anecdotes, selected basic science studies and false claims. Many of the criticisms of the Covid response are valid, many are BS, but CDC folks are trying to protect the public health daily.

The wording of this resolution is convoluted and confusing that most of us have no idea what this means in practice.

@elizabethjacobs.bsky.social referred to the meeting as a goat rodeo, but that is insulting to goat rodeo riders and goats), who are not nearly as disorganized.

There is still massive confusion around the practical outcome of ACIP’s vote on COVID19 vaccines today.

Some are reporting that ACIP made no recommendations at all.

This is the exact wording of what they voted “yes” on. Shared clinical decisionmaking could mean talking to a pharmacist.
Screenshot says The pediatric and adult immunization schedules for administration of FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccines should be updated as follows:
• Adults 65 and older: Vaccination based on individual-based decision-making*
• Individuals 6 months to 64 years: Vaccination based on individual-based decision making-with an emphasis that the risk-benefit of vaccination is most favorable for individuals who are at an increased risk for severe
COVID-19 disease and lowest for individuals who are not at an increased risk, according to the CDC list of COVID-19 risk factors.
*Also known as shared clinical decision making.

Listening to ACIP meeting which is a catastrophe, as predicted. I’d like emphasize in all this that the CDC subject matter experts and leads have been tremendous and continue to represent good science on our behalf. I am very grateful for their dedication, despite internal and external pressure.

Listening to Retsef Levi carry on. Confusion would be too kind. I think torturing logic and data is banned as cruel and unusual punishment

Judge Merryday invoked Rule 8 with some very colorful language to dismiss Trump's suit against the NYT. It would be great to hear you discuss this either on StayTuned or Cafe insider. And what is the legal definition of "bench slap?"

ACIP is in chaos, they don't understand the policy implications, and it is only going to get worse.
drdemetre.bsky.social
That’s the problem. It doesn’t make sense. They should not be trusted to make policy recommendations. VFC providers have to adhere to ACIP recommendations. Who knows what it means if there is an ACIP recommendation that doesn’t comport to the VFC resolution?

Special thanks to the @CDC scientists for great presentations, excellent scientific reviews, and enormous patience in the face of an enormously challenging and upsetting day at what used to be the ACIP
andrewpaviamd.bsky.social
As Dr. Monarez made clear from her testimony, these votes were essentially pre-determined by RFK Jr and his careful selection of like-minded supporters to staff ACIP. He asked her to guarantee in advance she would approve the votes, no matter the science.

former CDC official Dr. Houry: "I first learned that the secretary had changed our CDC covid vaccine guidance on an X social media post. CDC scientists have still not seen the scientific data or justification for this change. That is not gold standard science."

Dr. Susan Monarez: “I could have stayed silent, agreed to the demands, and no one would have known. What the public would have seen were scientists dismissed without cause and vaccine protections quietly eroded…I would have lost the one thing that cannot be replaced: My integrity.”
