Big Bend is an awesome place, and this article is a great example of why its important to protect these areas!
Here's another reason why protected areas like National Parks and Wilderness are so important!

A new plant was just discovered in Big Bend National Park, 80 percent of which is recommended, potential, or eligible for wilderness designation.

To be clear, this cap is less about efficiency and cutting costs than about gutting our national research infrastructure
The U.S. National Institutes of Health’s recent decision to impose a 15% cap on facilities and administrative cost reimbursements is misguided and damaging, argue the authors of a new #SciencePolicyForum. scim.ag/423AbVX

Another fox guarding the chickens! Typical of this administration.
“This is someone who made his money by ripping off American taxpayers and who shouldn’t come anywhere near a position of authority over tax dollars,” said Sen. Ron Wyden about Schuler’s appointment. “He’ll fit right in with the Trump administration.”

Trump and Musk are destroying American science. Most of the firings appear to be younger scientists. It would take a generation to make up for these losses.

Now, and Then
Yesterday, 2/10, thinking about our dry winter and lack of snow, so we see fewer Elk. But, late afternoon, a few flakes fell, and ~ 25 Elk appeared on cue! For a comparison, another Elk on 2/10 last year, in about 5" of snow in the same area.

but fraud and abuse is exactly what the Trump administration is about! Let's cheat the common people and make the oligarchs richer!
The CFPB is one of the American people’s best defenses against waste, fraud, and abuse.

Demolishing it will, of course, lead to more waste, fraud, and abuse.

Waste and fraud! Trump’s tax plan in action
Tesla earned $2.3 billion in the United States in 2024.

You'd think it paid a lot in taxes, right?

Well it paid precisely $0 in federal income taxes last year.

You want waste and fraud? Look at what some big corporations and the rich are getting away with.

A couple of mountain views taken during our cross-country ski outing today, in the San Juan Mountains of Southern Colorado. Beautiful spring-like conditions, but you can see from the exposed rock on the nearby peaks just how little snow we've had so far this winter. W

If the POTUS's minions freeze federal research funding, thousands of Coloradans will lose their jobs. And thousands of members of the public will be denied potentially life-saving treatments and medicines developed in research labs across the state and nation.

There’s a problem here. Musk is loving the role of deflector shield for Trump, as it gives him power. He loves video games and so he loves being Ready Player One. Focusing on him and not on Trump works for Trump in a weird way, even if eat the rich also works.
Raskin: "Elon Musk, you may have illegally seized power over the financial payments systems of the Treasury, but you don't control the money of the American people. The US Congress does that under Article 1 of the Constitution ... we don't have a fourth branch of government called 'Elon Musk'"
