really can’t say enough about how mike johnson is a sniveling little coward of a man. a bayou-bred pushover with a dignity deficit that would embarrass renfield

Q: Do you agree that the mayor of Chicago and governor of Illinois should be in prison?

MIKE JOHNSON: Should they be in prison? I'm not the attorney general. I'm not following the day to day on that

Literally all they've got any more is KKK-style nativism, directed specifically at Latinos. Every single GOP message collapses back to this. They've become the Klan

Mike Johnson: "If you're a young, pregnant American citizen women who shows up in an ER and you get treated and they pay the hospital less for treating you than some illegal rabble rouser who came in from some South American country to do us harm, that is wrong."

I will not back down.

Trump is now calling for the arrest of elected representatives checking his power.

What else is left on the path to full-blown authoritarianism?
Donald Trump Truth Social Post: Chicago Mayor should be in jail for failing to protect Ice Officers! Governor Pritzker also.

This episode driftglass.blogspot.com/2025/10/prof... while apparently about Huckleberry Finn tells you more about contemporary America than you find out in all #Americast shows-And nails the 'Both Sides!' nonsense of Justin Webb and others. Thanks @bluegal.bsky.social and @driftglass.bsky.social

Since Justin Webb is paid money by the Murdoch Mob to write for The Times shouldn't he declare this before he reads out anything from that stable during the frequent press reviews on #r4today ? The obvious conflict of interest is clear but apparently the BBC hierarchy doesn't care.
andybirss.bsky.social
Imagine if the current crop of #r4today editors and presenters had as much interest in food banks and the people forced to use them as they obviously have about promoting books, plays, music and films.
andybirss.bsky.social
I know it seems to confuse #r4today presenters but just because they and their friends haven't experienced the effects of austerity it doesn't mean others still aren't suffering from services being withdrawn, benefits being cut or Sure Start Centres disappearing.
andybirss.bsky.social
For good journalists and presenters it doesn't matter how much they get paid as they seek to speak truth to power. However most of the current crop of #r4today presenters seem to think their job is to protect the status quo and their nice side work paid for by the extreme right-wing Murdoch mob.
andybirss.bsky.social
The #r4today programme used to be the place to go to listen to the news but now it seems to be just a vehicle for paying rather poor presenters vast sums of money for them to read out what their right-wing friends in the overwhelmingly right-wing UK press think.

Doesn’t Emma Barnett know early years provision was decimated by her beloved Tories back in 2010 when they axed sure start - subsequent generations have paid the price of austerity! #r4today

#Americast has effectively normalised the snatching of people from the streets of the US by armed masked thugs in unmarked cars. When the same masked thugs start coming for journalists the #Americast crew will be safe of course as they don't speak truth to power and 'Both Sides!' things away.

Birmingham, my home city, is a fantastic city, with fantastic people- a success story. It has its problems, like anywhere. But the obsession the online right has with it is as transparent as it gets.

Leni Riefenstahl used to get very upset after WWII when people called her a Nazi so I presume once Trump has 'gone' Ms Bondi will deny that she knew anything that was going on.

When people are hired, not for their honesty or competency, but for their ability to be snarling trolls on TV for the delight of their immature and unpleasant boss, you get an AG like Pamela Jo Bondi.

Badenoch: We didn't get the Rwanda plan off the ground "because of the ECHR"

Also not true.

The Supreme Court declared one verson unlawful - not just because of the ECHR - and you never tried the treaty-based version.

So to summarise, this is a white politician blaming a black journalist for the racism he is now actively helping to promote, after receiving the full endorsement of his own party leader

Wow. Robert Jenrick doubles down by branding a black journalist's questions "ridiculous" and saying that the problem is not his comments, but "journalists like you who pop up and try to knock me down", adding that "this is the reason why terrorist attacks happen". ~AA

He doesn't want areas where there is a 'preponderance' of one race over another. My kids school in rural Suffolk had one black family in a school of 1200 pupils. But that's not what he means, is it?

Quite an odd headline even the hyper-cautious BBC. That isn't the main line he's defending: he had attacked a supposed total lack of white people in the area

Badenoch: The reason we are not deporting people is the ECHR.

That is not true.

"Leaving the ECHR would be a high-risk policy, damaging to our international standing and, at best, irrelevant in tackling illegal immigration. That such a policy is justified by misleading and spurious claims only makes matters worse."

Exactly Ed-I know they will go with the Jenrick stuff during the Badenoch interview but I don't think that #r4today editors and presenters have caught up with how many people are so concerned about the climate emergency. And I don't think most presenters have a grasp of what we face.

Two of the most common climate misconceptions I see, even among knowledgeable folks, are that (1) most people aren't worried about climate change, and (2) if they were, they'd act.

Not true! Data show (1) most people are worried, but (2) they won’t act if they don’t know what to do-and most don’t.
A map of the world showing how levels of worry in most countries are greater than 70%. Source: Yale Program on Climate Change Communication, International Public Opinion on Climate Change, 2023.
