They have, *genuinely*, no thoughts whatsoever about maybe why the civil service increased dramatically in size during and after Brexit? Nothing occurring to them? Just the loose purse-strings and reckless state spending overindulgence of the Conservative Governments of the 2010s?

I feel this is the point where I drop all understanding of SYW. Whatever her own issues, at the point where she knew about your daughter's disability and how she'd made you feel, she should have apologised.

I'm tending that way. She wrote such a good analysis of the 2017 election and I thought she'd make a great education sec, though has not shone in the role so far.

Does it matter who I vote for in the Deputy Leader election 🤷?

The Conservatives have pledged they will increase the number of deportations to 150k/year

- while significantly reducing the size of the civil service
- without increasing government spending and taxation.
- and opposing mandatory identification.

Calling English a 'rip-off degree' is one of the most blatant exhibitions of personal barbarism I've ever seen. You've demonstrated nothing but the poverty of your own mind.

Sadly doesn't surprise me. It has changed quite a lot in those 10 years - never imagined Green Party would be so successful - but racism and ignorance is still there.

He doesn't want areas where there is a 'preponderance' of one race over another. My kids school in rural Suffolk had one black family in a school of 1200 pupils. But that's not what he means, is it?

Wow. Robert Jenrick doubles down by branding a black journalist's questions "ridiculous" and saying that the problem is not his comments, but "journalists like you who pop up and try to knock me down", adding that "this is the reason why terrorist attacks happen". ~AA

The rhetoric rots those roots; ILR and citizenship nourish them. The NHS and other sectors are held together by 'foreign' workers and we'll all suffer if they are driven away to more welcoming places.

Tbh, the whole anti-migrant rhetoric is already making my friends on ILR look at moving.

Of course, they’re all the ones with the money and talent *to* move. Which isn’t what politicians are selling as the consequence of ILR-bashing. But it’s what will happen.
The 10 year wait for Indefinite Leave to Remain will make the UK very unattractive for high skilled workers who often have alternatives. 2019 data (excluding the NHS and universities) shows that high skilled workers on visas are heavily concentrated in multinationals who can move jobs abroad (5/x)

Asking you to give it a rest for a weekend while so many are preoccupied with grief and fear is not an infringement of your human rights, it is actually an appeal to your humanity. Be kind.

35 years ago, Germany received its greatest gift: reunification – less than a year after the Berlin Wall fell.

Thanks to the unshakeable will of East German people and our allies' support, Germany and Europe changed for the better.

Today is a day of joy, recollection and encouragement.

Hey scumbags, Jews in Manchester have fuck all to do with Palestine or Israel. Commenting beneath news stories about dead British Jews with 'what about Palestinians?' is just fucking antisemitic bullshit. If you think Jews are your enemy, you are the enemy.

Jews are not Israel.

Yesterday, confirmed twice no urgent problem before choosing specifically to discuss blood test. 2 hours later, talked to GP, got the report of Friday's MRI, been referred to orthopod and got an appointment with the GP's physio for next week. BMA is making a silly fuss

The core question is: how on earth can it be ethical to strip retrospectively the status of people told by the state that they can feel at home here permanently?

2nd question: why recognise that is wrong for Europeans, but refuse to for Commonwealth nationals??

Starmer: “Controlling migration is a reasonable goal- but if you throw bricks and smash up private property that is thuggery…if you incite violence that’s criminal…if you graffiti on a Chinese takeaway telling them to go home, that’s not pride that’s racism.”

Glad I renewed my membership in the end. We need this Party to fight for decency and I think we've made a start today. Cry harder, racist grifters.

Another great part of the PMs speech!

Calling racists, racist!

Calling out Farage and Reform for their plans to deport our friends and neighbours!

(And the addition of music makes it even better!)

Nigel Farage should keep pledges made to people from the Commonwealth that this is their permanent home, not renege on those retrospectively. He has not explained why he accepts that principle for Europeans but does not apply it to 500k people, mainly Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis & Nigerians

Starmer's speech won't convince the haters, but it was the best I've seen him give. Repositioned a lot of stuff in a good clear way, had a story to tell and a sense of mission. While I have plenty of nits to pick, it managed to address me not as a commentator, but as a person, which is a rare feat.
