This week for the first in my Spooky Season Monster Mash series, I watched a movie with the scariest monster I can think of: Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame in which the monster wraps himself in unjust laws and bible quotes to commit genocide and assault.

Trump wraps up a speech to military leaders that represented a major escalation of his effort to weaponize the armed forces into a tool he can use to violently quash domestic dissent. Hard to imagine how anyone with a shred of dignity can keep serving after this, which of course is the point.

Finally: AI cannot do your job, but an AI salesman can 100% convince your boss to fire you and replace you with an AI that can't do your job, and when the bubble bursts, the money-hemorrhaging "foundation models" will be shut off and we'll lose the AI that can't do your job, and you will be long gone, retrained or retired or "discouraged" and out of the labor market, and no one will do your job.
AI is the asbestos we are shoveling into the walls of our society and our descendants will be digging it out for generations:

Nobody cares about the victims in the Dallas ICE shooting apparently. The first I've heard about one of them was on CNN today. He's fighting for his life in the hospital --- he was brought to the US when he was 13. He's 33 now. No criminal record.

I just don't know what to say anymore.

To all of you who have finally started to come around on the genocide of the Palestinian people:

I'm not going to shame you for not having done so earlier, I understand that you have been reluctant to speak up out of fear of the consequences: That you might lose jobs, contracts, friends, relations. That you would be called antisemites. That you would lose your privileges. I understand because I have been there myself.

So I'm not going to judge you, but I am going to ask you to follow your words by actions:

Keep educating yourselves on the issue: Join protests. Demand actions from your leaders. Dare to finally speak and act from the long suppressed compassion of your hearts. Consistently, in all rooms you enter!

But I also ask you to be mindful: the guilt and shame you have accumulated for staying silent for so long must not be projected as hatred, or else you risk falling into the same scapegoatism and dehumanization that are the root causes of all genocides. That kind of overcompensation could be directly harmful.

The first thing to be done is of course to stop the genocide and the illegal occupation immediately, by all means necessary! But it is also crucial not to fall into a projection of our own individual and collective subconscious guilt solely onto Israel. The path forward is not possible unless the critique of Israel is understood in a larger decolonizing framework. The moral bankruptcy of the Western hegemony has never been more blatantly exposed. And we have to understand this crisis in that context. Only through self-reflection and accountability can we start building the new world waiting to be born. One beyond us-and-them, me-and-you, good-and-evil. One that includes all of humanity. This revolution WILL be spiritualized.
