Ha. No, these companies are run by guys, and they don’t care
I do not understand companies who move whole teams to Texas after Dobbs. Do they not have female employees of reproductive age? Have they simply forgotten about them? Do they have aircraft ready to fly them to states where abortion is permitted, and a team of lawyers ready to defend the company?
I am always thinking about long term, unforeseen consequences of decisions made in the heat of current events. Meta moving its content moderation teams to Texas underscores for me how tech workers moving to Texas will inevitably change the state in profound ways.

It’s funny Zuck says “I started building social media to give people a voice” when in fact, he started building social media to publicly rate the hotness of undergrads.

Something that occurred to me is that this happen immediately after Facebook got busted for making a ton of fake AI-accounts.

What would stop them from using those AI-accounts to populate "Community Notes" with lies and fabrications?

Musk has incinerated the value of Twitter as a business or user experience. The reason why Zuckerberg is copying his lead is that the true value of these information systems is political.
Facebook will also "get rid of a bunch of restrictions on topics like immigration and gender that are just out of touch with mainstream discourse," Zuckerberg says.

And the U.S.-based content review teams will be based in Texas, not California, going forward

america’s founding ethos is that it is wrong for government to interfere with the wealthy’s exploitation of working people
again going to my bench of favorite complaints: it is weird how openly predatory US culture is and it would be good to have a government that feels some semblance of responsibility for people's wellbeing

The future (imo) will be filled with a constant ache and continual search for — with increasingly diminished capacity for discovery / identification of — authenticity.
I am fascinated by the people at Meta who think this is a *good* idea in exactly the same way I'm fascinated by conspiracy theorists.

It just seems so patently awful to me. And in ways that every sensible person I know would immediately grasp.

The Supreme Court's shift of interpretive authority from agency experts to federal courts is going to produce a lot of this argle-bargle, as judges with zero subject-matter expertise try to hand-wave their way toward a preferred outcome with incoherent legalese.
The Sixth Circuit just invalidated FCC's net neutrality rules, arguing that it was inconsistent with the "best reading" of the statute per Loper Bright. The court's dismissal of the FCC's reading of the statute as "not the best" is hilariously abstruse metaphysical BS:

Things I got wrong this year:

- Bought the “there is an anti-Trump majority” argument
- Thought Biden had a bottom to what he’d let Israel get away with
- Thought more people would get fed up and leave X
- Didn’t realize how extremely bad billionaire monopoly control of the media had become
