I forget who - I think a libertarian - tweeted once "my most right wing take is we should have open borders to triple global GDP. my most left wing take is we should have open borders because the status quo is a massive human rights violation"
Anyway, I can whinge about immigration all day long. What's distressing is that even since our book came out 7 years ago, it seems just about everyone has pulled away from the vision of a more open world. It's like the only issue that unites starry-eyed idealists and grumpy economists.

This is what's been driving me f'ing crazy about the Democrats. They ceded the immigration debate to the GOP for no reason. Immigration is a net positive to this country and it's not even close. We have a broken immigration system but the problem isn't the immigrants, it's the politicians.
kind of just endlessly sad and grieving that there are so few voices in the public sphere making the basic principled argument that immigration is an affirmative good in every way and the best way for this country to serve humanity is to welcome people who want or need to leave their homes

Read this today in Wired. Great article about the coming collapse and tools to recover. Go Forth!

It goes without saying but it’s important to keep saying it.
So it goes without saying, but let's say it anyway: the concentration of attacks on trans people isn't because trans people are the only people fascists hate (although they absolutely do hate them). It's because they're the people they think non-fascists are least likely to defend.

Over on the other site Elon Musk said that DOGE stopped $50M of condoms from being delivered to Gaza which Trump the repeated several times but it turns out that was the number for all contraceptive support from USAID everywhere on Earth, of which none went to Palestinians.

"Earth is a big planet, but in reality, at any one time, you can only see a very tiny part of it (about 0.00001 percent for a height of 1.5 m)." or 4.4km, what the average US citizen walks daily. At that rate, one could circle the earth in only 100,000 days. That's about 274 years.
