the cruel thing is that insults like "hope he/she sees this bro" don't work anymore precisely because someone like elon musk *is* desperate enough to see it

I did read the thread. I know it’s about a two earner family. It does not make a meaningful difference tho. I don’t love means testing and this is not a thread about means testing. It’s about understanding what words gd mean. Go away

I think people are mistaking "drop in QoL" for outright deprivation.

Literally where did I say no one should care about affordability
December 5, 2025 at 11:40 PM
Go away man this is stupid. Of course it’s under the two worker median. Most poverty and indeed most precarity is about ratio of workers to non workers in a household. The household he describes is not meaningfully precarious.

You’re being really obnoxious because at no point did I say we shouldn’t make places more affordable. This isn’t a thread about whether to build more houses (we should!). But we should also recognize wtf poverty actually is and it’s not “slightly under median in Brookline”
December 5, 2025 at 11:30 PM
That’s kind of the point — the first thing they’d likely do is move to a cheaper place and this family in particular seemingly CAN! Without even leaving the metro area or moving in with a relative! I’m sympathetic to using somewhat local stats but not THAT local
December 5, 2025 at 11:28 PM
I mean that is already how must people think of it, which is why so many people objected so strongly
December 5, 2025 at 11:19 PM
That’s very silly. The hypothetical family literally does not have to live in the most expensive part of the Boston area, and I doubt it’s under median for *that*. If some problem were to crop up for this hypothetical family (especially since they’re renters) they would leave Brookline
December 5, 2025 at 11:18 PM
Ok? That doesn’t contradict what I said or add much to it?
December 5, 2025 at 11:12 PM
You literally wrote the words “that [of a family making higher than median income] precarity is poverty” come on
December 5, 2025 at 11:00 PM
You could become poor or get cancer!

But like, right now you’re healthy and middle class.

Yeah poor people use "I can't afford" to mean they literally don't have the money in their bank account, middle class people use it to mean "It would reduce my financial stability" and UMC+ use it to mean "I would prefer that my savings grow faster".

They met via Incubate Debate, the fake Alternative Debate Program that Fishback created bc NFL/NSDAs were supposedly too woke. In other words, Fishback created a fake program for high schoolers as a way to find an underage girlfriend.

Literally naming it Incubate was a nice touch holy shit

Like imagine being the guy on the receiving end of this level of resistlib energy. You will absolutely not have the House majority two years into your term

"Everything is worse now" - no, you're just older.

"Everything is more expensive" - no, we can measure this, and it's not true.

"No one can afford anything like they used to" - you aren't remembering right, this is wrong.

"Nothing works well" - things worked very badly before, you were just 13.
