South Korea has a level of FAFO that makes me envious
SEOUL, Jan 13 (Reuters) - South Korea's special prosecutor on Tuesday requested the death penalty for former president Yoon Suk Yeol on charges of insurrection over his brief imposition of martial law in December 2024.

Incrementalism doesn’t work. I used to be an advocate for it. That was wrong. We can’t chip away at the rot in hopes of laying the ground work for big change later. We have to go in blasting now.

Abolish ICE. Raze his ballroom. Defund all his shit. Jail the crooks. Restore America.

I mean this sincerely, cordially, and in good humor: to anyone out there just now coming online to the fact that we have fallen under the thumb of a fascist dictator, welcome to Year 10 of some of us writing on that very subject and yes for the record we are *fucking exhausted*

It's fascinating when you start to pay attention to AQI forecasts and overlay that with how well you sleep and feel when outside. Air Quality is a more impactful factor in our lives than most people realize.

This. Never in human history has "I was just following orders" actually been a useful defense for the indefensible.
By the way, if you’re on the side of thinking that ICE is going to win whatever this “war” against the people they talk about…. They aren’t

And the statute of limitations goes past three years for a lot of crimes

The ascension of metrics-based Management (bad) + decline in religiosity (good) have led to a massive gap in society. We need to bring discussion of "soft" concepts like Leadership, ethics, and Wisdom back to the forefront of our culture.

Better yet, disestablish all of DHS, and undo the nightmarish idiocies that we created in a panic 25 years ago. Reestablish the INS, get rid of ODNI, fix the damage from the Patriot Act, etc.
For the love of all that is decent and holy: abolish ICE

He’s out of control. He’s deranged. This is the opposite of what he promised America when he ran for president. He said he’d focus on *us*.

5 things that will fix the corruption in our politics:

1. Ban hedge funds from buying single-family homes.

2. Prohibit Congress and families from stock trading.

3. Remove big money from politics: Ban unions, corporations, super PACs; limit individual donations to $100 per election.

Talk Of Fascism Dangerous, Warns Ministry Of Compliance

This is the energy we are all called to bring in the face of fascism.
Mayor Brandon of Chicago responds to a question from a reporter if pushing back will make things harder?

“Can you imagine if my ancestors would have had the same rationale? Let’s not fight against the Confederacy. Let’s just try to get along, and maybe one day they’ll give us our freedom?”

We've already passed the threshold. 249 years was a good run. The next country in this geo will learn many lessons from us, and actually prosecuting white collar crime when it first happens will be one of them.

Yep.

Far-right discourse on crime has *nothing* to do with crime.

It’s irrational cowards obsessed with myths, urban legends, and rank prejudice talking themselves into believing their delusions have an association with reality.

Far-right fear of crime should be in the next edition of the DSM-VI.
There’s a theme here, between Miller and Vermeule, which is that the authoritarian right has a view of “order” which has nothing to do with actual crime and has everything to do with violently enforcing their preferred cultural hierarchies.

The war on immigration is just all bad in every possible direction.
--It is very expensive
--It radicalizes government agencies
--It distorts US foreign policy
--It is very harmful to the economy
--It is also quite cruel.

There is no second/third order consequence that is positive.
Local jails–mostly run by elected sheriffs–are making money off of ICE's rampant criminalization of immigration.
