Lots of new followers. Hi!
I write all the things, too much to list in a single Bluesky post. Don't believe me, visit antonyjohnston.com 😂
Books, videogames, graphic novels, non-fiction, plus podcasts + music.
I mostly post about writing, sometimes food pics + bad jokes too. Big fan of dogs.

Apparently arts degrees are so worthless they need to be stopped, yet the product of those degrees is so valuable paying for it would bring down an entire industry.

Make it make sense.
Headline screenshot. The leader of the Conservative Party saying we need to "Curb students taking 'rip-off' degrees such as English." Headline screenshot. The former leader of the Liberal Democrats, also former Meta employee, claiming that asking artists for permission to use their work (i.e. paying for it) would "kill" the A.I. industry.

It’s finally here!
You can now buy the trade paperback of ARCHAIC, about a badass single mom who’s put in charge of a sentient island and its mythological Inhabitants. Come for the Mesopotamian goddess of the dead, stay for the 9-yr-old who saves the day w/birdwatching skills.

I’ve now got more CYSTM Live events & festivals lined up before the end of the year (not to mention the next Dog Sitter Detective book launching in November) plus more talks and book signings.

Could do with a holiday tbh 😅

In 2025 so far I’ve written 2 novels, continued writing a videogame (& pitched another), designed 2 board games, designed CYSTM? Live and hosted it all over the country, guested at crime festivals (incl Harrogate), delivered talks, recorded podcasts, and even redesigned the CWA Dagger trophy 🗡

I know it’s not the end of the year yet, but having just handed in the manuscript for Can You Solve the Murder? book 2, I’m finally slowing down (well, a bit!) and reflecting.

Sounds like the many tech pundits who never get anything right, yet continue to be hired and paid. Shows how much attention these think tanks actually pay to what they say.
antonyjohnston.bsky.social
That's one of the things that gets me. It literally makes more economic sense, and yet the so-called 'parties of business' so often oppose it regardless.
antonyjohnston.bsky.social
And somehow, the sky hasn't fallen, there's no economic catastrophe, Europe's green lands aren't suddenly all covered in panels. Wouldn't it be nice if all those people who wailed about how green energy is terrible and spells doom changed their tune to match reality? Well, a boy can dream.

I wonder how many others out there are dumbstruck today that Patricia Routledge only ever performed FOUR Kitty sketches which run to less then 10 minutes in total. She and Victoria Wood created an immortal comedy character in less than 10 minutes.

RIP the great Kitty. Say hello to Victoria, and save some gypsy creams for me "up there". youtu.be/T-iDlTBZhKg

That's the eternal problem, isn't it? More art than science.

The issue of 'sales track' has become a hot discussion topic in publishing over the past couple of weeks. This is a good piece, arguing that it often doesn't make sense to weigh it so heavily.

I am absolutely thrilled and gobsmacked to announce that Can You Solve the Murder? has been selected as a Paperback of the Year by @waterstones.bsky.social! Look out for it in stores everywhere – makes a wonderful Xmas gift, I’m just saying… 😉🔍 @transworldbooks.bsky.social @sarahsuch.bsky.social
