I've been talking a lot lately about following a potluck model for resistance. For a potluck meal, the goal is to gather food for people to eat. If everybody brings 3-bean salad, that's not a successful meal.

BUT if a couple people bring entrees, a few other people bring veggies....

In 2014 Dutch scientists left a hamster wheel outside, to see if wild animals would use it like their domesticated counterparts.

The answer: hell yes! 734 visits from wild mice - plus rats, shrews, slugs ("running" being subjective here) & even frogs and snails.

The apparent reason: fun. Just fun.

The incidence of fire in Hawaii is increasing and although we collectively curate nearly 100 million seeds, we still fell short of seed that would be compatible with post-fire restoration after the devastating 2023 Lahaina Fire, highlighting the need for more seed to achieve management objectives.

They don't do this to look cool, they do it to become cool(er) - by minimising the % of their body being hit by overhead sun during the hottest parts of the day.

I think one of the most important skills you can learn is how to draw. Every kid should get at least an hour of drawing a day in school. Using a computer, software programme, digital manipulation or AI is not drawing. It involves no authentic self-expression. Digital ‘art’ is the death of the soul.

A poster for our annual Wassail celebration in Chagford, a small rural village on Dartmoor. The posters says: Help us ‘wake up’ the apple trees in the traditional way with music, song, folklore and frolics. Bring drums or pots & pans to bang, and a cup for apple juice or cider. Everyone is welcome, young and old! (But please leave dogs at home due to sheep in the field.)" The art shows folkloric figures (a crow, Obby Oss, badger, frog, bunny and ram) playing folk instruments as they circle a large wassail cup (or barrel).
