LA has been under occupation since the summer. But it is viewed as “other” in its diversity, so the attacks on it did not break through. Because the media is racist and the country is racist and violence against non-white people is considered a matter of course.

Correction - this effort has been in high gear continuously since June. ICE is continuing to kidnap people in consistently high numbers and lots of people are out every day trying to stop them. There is no waiting for another surge - the first one never ended.
we have a level of this in LA from the last time they were here in force and I expect it to kick back in serious gear the second they send another surge

if your city hasn’t been hit yet now is the time to lay the groundwork, and thankfully there are a ton of examples out there at this point
Getting a lot of messages. A lot are like "Can I come help?" (appreciated, but unless you know the area very well, probably not THAT useful) or "Can I send money?" (not to me, please).

But the best ones are like "I want to build what you guys have back in my home city." YES, DO THAT. DO IT NOW.

Echo Park Mutual Aid is raising money for a street vendor who was among the 10 taken by ICE last Friday. The workers taken are often the sole providers in these families; many can barely afford to survive, let alone legal fees. Here's one way to help.

I don’t think they’re misreading them so much as they are terrified of the implications because it means the status quo has to break. there’s no incrementalism for this. mass radicalization of this scale scares Democrats more than anything Republicans could do and I mean that literally.
Kind of feel like a lot of politicians, even in Minnesota, are misreading the implications of this moment. I feel like the past three days have been tremendously radicalizing for so many people. I have witnessed it even in my own small communities, it goes beyond just incandescent rage.

With “progressives" like these…
Yesterday, CD1 Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez swept the Custer encampment in Echo Park. LA Street Care and Echo Park Mutual Aid organizers worked with the Custer community to salvage as many of their belongings as possible before cops and LA Sanitation trashed them.

I don't think it's cowardice. I think that they are OK with what the GOP is doing. The sooner folks reconcile with this, the better.

Calling the Democrats “cowards” suggests that they're scared to do what's right when they show no fervent interest in being an opposition. They're largely colluders, not cowards. Many want their base to think they're cowards to maintain investment in the idea that they can be pushed to do better.

PLEASE READ! As folks celebrate Mamdani’s win, remember to stay grounded in your principles. Hold your electeds accountable, especially the self-titled “progressives” who break their campaign promises, like Eunisses!
Eunisses Hernandez called homeless encampment sweeps “inhumane.” Then, she joined LA City Council and things changed.

Since taking office, arrests of unhoused people have skyrocketed in Hernandez’s district.

I dunno, the size of the No Kings crowds yesterday made me feel slightly less hopeless? That morale boost isn't necessarily worth all the effort, but why take away that one positive morale boost by pointing out the obvious?

Mountain View encampment residents confronted a progressive council member's staffer on why he ordered a sweep that drew heavy police presence, why there wasn't shelter.

Another told @thelareporter.bsky.social the sweep felt like a burglary. She said it was "heartbreaking, for no reason."

All of our struggles are connected. The Mountain View Community was attacked by the state this week. All Angelenos feel the pain of that.

The fascism of the federal government starts at home. It starts even in so-called "progressive" districts.
