Brexit is the mother and father of all evil. Oh, and Putin. And First Past the Post. And Murdoch. Could go on and on but I'm confined on Blighty, exiled from X and in search of a new home. Bluesky, I'm ready packing 🧳📦💼🛍️

well on the one hand it's bad for democracy and social cohesion that Keir Starmer is trying to appeal to the racists by pretending to be one of them, but on the other hand it's not actually working and the racists still don't want to vote for him

"The public say this is a national emergency," he says caressing the Daily Mail. "Why don't you call it that? Why don't you call it that? Why don't you call a spade a spade?"

Since @skynewsrss.bsky.social have such a firm editorial view, I'd love their definition of a national emergency. ~AA

When centrists adopt far-right rhetoric, they don’t make themselves stronger. They make themselves look inauthentic, legitimise the far right, and shift the political debate onto terrain defined by their opponents.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social @lbc.co.uk this conversation you're having on who's Starmer trying to appeal to is so British, trimming the edges but not being straightforward.

The only 2 arguments that really matter here are the UK arbitrary voting system and the oligarchs media ownership/BBC corruption.

Whatever the outcome of this local elections, I can only agree with Robert Shrimsley. Labour is not changing the country, just managing things better. But we want real change, the voting system, council tax, the Lords, media laws, BBC....
Starmer is a caretaker, not ambitious enough unfortunately.

But we can put the son of a KGB agent in the House of Lords, paying him to make our laws
